The issue of football events in the occupied territories comes back to the fore, this time with the participation of Real Madrid's program in Turkey. ELAM asks for the cancellation of the activity and calls on the Republic of Cyprus to take the necessary actions.
According to an announcement by Gençlik Gücü Akademisi, a football camp is scheduled for November 14 at the Acapulco facilities, in the context of which the academy will face young football players of the Real Madrid Foundation Football Program Türkiye in a friendly match.
ELAM characterizes the holding of the event in the occupied territories as unacceptable and asks the central administration of Real Madrid in Spain to cancel it. In its announcement, it claims that such moves serve, intentionally or unintentionally, the effort to legitimize the fait accompli of the invasion and the ongoing occupation.
The event concerns the Foundation's football education program in Turkey, which operates in collaboration with Be Free Football and Regnum Hotels, as reported by Real Madrid.
The case comes a few months after the cancellation of Barcelona's camp in the occupied territories, following reactions and interventions, including from the KOP to the Spanish football federation.
