"SPYROS KYPRIANOU'' LOCKED AS MACCABI'S HOME GROUND - FIRST MATCH 22 OCTOBER - DRACONIAN SECURITY MEASURES, ESPECIALLY WITH TURKISH TEAMS - Filenews 6/10 by Michalis Chatzivasilis

The "Spyros Kyprianou" stadium in Polemidia was formally given the green light today, as the official home of Maccabi basketball for its Euroleague games.

In an inspection of the stadium, it was judged that it can meet the special needs of the Israeli team and that is why it will be declared as its home instead of Serbia as it was until now. During the inspection, representatives of the CSO, Maccabi, the stadium authorities and the two assistant chiefs of Police, Giannakis Georgiou and Michalis Katsounotos, accompanied by officials, were present.
According to information from Filenews - which revealed the matter yesterday - the stadium was deemed suitable to host the matches of the Israeli team and it was emphasized to everyone that safety is paramount. That is why it was decided that the fans who will be able to watch Maccabi games will be less than the capacity of the stadium.

Today, with the renovations that took place last year, "Spyros Kyprianou" can accommodate 6,000 spectators. However, only 5,000 will be allowed to enter Maccabi's matches. For visiting teams, the police will allow a very small number of fans.

According to our same information, it has been decided that in the matches of the Israeli team, for obvious reasons, the transport of any personal belongings of the fans will not be allowed inside the stadium, while the stadium will be handed over to the Police 24 hours before the match, it will be sealed, guarded and only Maccabi will be allowed to use it for training.

Also, there will be a separation of the stands and those who will enter must hold a fan card. The Euroleague has requested some changes to the court such as basketball, etc., something that is expected to happen in the next few days, in order to make the games possible.

As for the measures during the games against three Turkish teams (Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Anatolou Efes) these will be draconian and the controls will be thorough.
