PRESIDENT CHRISTODOULIDES ANNOUNCED THE CREATIONOF A MOBILE SOCIAL CARE UNIT - WHAT SERVICES WILL IT OFFER - PILOT APPLICATION IN LIMASSOL - Filenews 12/10

Our goal is for the services to be, as much as possible, closer to the person, said the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides, announcing the creation of a Mobile Social Care Unit, with a pilot application in Limassol.
President Christodoulides' announcement was made in the context of his greeting for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Limassol Adult Home, on Monday afternoon, in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Evi Tsolaki, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Tina Pavlou, the Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hadjimanoli and the Local Authorities.

As he mentioned, the way a society treats older people is a measure of its quality and cohesion and noted that, for the Government, "the issue is not limited to the provision of benefits or services". "It concerns, first and foremost, the right of every human being to grow up with dignity, autonomy and security, to continue to participate, to create, to have a say and to have choices. And when he needs support, he can find it in time, in a way that meets his own real needs," he added.

This philosophy, he continued, is served by the first National Strategy for Active Ageing 2025-2030, as well as the Action Plan 2025-2027 and indicated that "for the first time this strategy is being done by Democracy, for the first time we have formed an integrated framework that connects healthy and active ageing with social participation, prevention, education, digital skills, anti-discrimination and access to services".

At the same time, he continued, decent aging also requires financial security, "that's why we are moving forward and this morning, I had a very important meeting with the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, where we discussed the last details of the pension reform."
