WORLD TOURISM DAY 2026 - ''DIGITAL AGENDA AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR REDESIGNING TOURISM''

WORLD TOURISM DAY 2026 - ''DIGITAL AGENDA AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR REDESIGNING TOURISM'' - Pafos Press 25/9

The United Nations' message for World Tourism Day 2026—"Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence for Redesigning Tourism"—aligns perfectly with the strategy of the Paphos Region Tourism Board (ETAP) regarding smart and human-centric management. As a former European Capital of Smart Tourism, Paphos leverages digital innovation to decentralize visitor flows, protect cultural heritage, and strengthen rural communities.

Key initiatives by ETAP Paphos include:

Digital Empowerment of SMEs:  Through the COSME project "Smarties for SMEs," it contributes to the competitiveness of small businesses in the digital market. Heritage Preservation: Expanding smart tour guide tools to various monuments and points of interest to provide enriched, personalized experiences.

Hyper-Local Digital Assistant (AI Concierge): Developing a generative AI application that suggests tailored itineraries, promoting lesser-known villages, experiential activities, and destination experiences—particularly in rural areas.

Data-Driven Micro-Targeting: Continuing the use of advanced analytics to attract niche travelers, shifting the focus from mass tourism to high-value, regenerative tourism.

The Paphos Regional Tourism Board’s strategy rests on two pillars: technology to enhance the travel experience, and hospitality to preserve traditional charm and the human touch.

Alignment with the UN Digital Agenda ensures a resilient, inclusive, and future-proof tourism model for the "Paphos" destination.
