PASYXE calls for the inclusion of artificial intelligence and digital transition in the national strategy for tourism, underlining the need for infrastructure, specialized staff and incentives that will allow tourism businesses to invest in new technologies.
In an announcement on the occasion of World Tourism Day, on September 27, the Association highlights the potential of artificial intelligence to upgrade the Cypriot tourism product and enhance its competitiveness.
The discussion is of particular importance for Cyprus, as tourism is called upon to maintain its momentum amid the uncertainty caused by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
From guest experience to energy saving
According to PASYXE, new technologies can enhance the resilience of the tourism sector, offering opportunities for data collection, improving the visitor experience and reducing the energy footprint.
In order to take advantage of these possibilities, the Association considers it necessary to plan collectively, develop infrastructure and attract specialized staff. At the same time, it calls for a modern framework of incentives for technological investments, so that businesses can modernize and develop.
Pantazis: An opportunity to redesign the tourism model
The president of PASYXE, Yiannos Pantazis, described technology as an opportunity to upgrade Cypriot tourism and strengthen its position in international competition.
"As a country we have before us an important opportunity to redesign our tourism model and compete equally with the largest tourism markets," he said.
He stressed that the next day of Cypriot tourism will be judged by the ability to adapt and invest, as well as by the utilization of the opportunities presented. He added that Cyprus must participate in technological developments, providing businesses with the tools to create a more attractive and modern tourism product.
For his part, the general director of PASYXE, Christos Angelides, underlined that the country's tourism strategy must respond to global trends and the needs of the modern traveller.
"This year's theme is directly linked to the changes taking place in the tourism sector, where resilience, connectivity, adaptability and long-term strategy become essential," he said.
World Tourism Day and the conference of PASYXE
As stated in the announcement, this year's World Tourism Day events are hosted in El Salvador, with the theme "Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence for the redesign of tourism".
The day was established in 1980 by decision of the World Tourism Organization and is celebrated every year on September 27, highlighting the social, cultural, political, environmental and economic contribution of tourism.
Technology, innovation and competitiveness will also be at the heart of the 47th Cyprus Hotel Summit & HORECA Expo, organized by PASYXE on December 2nd, at the Hilton Hotel in Nicosia.
