The total occupancy of the dams stood at 40.6% by the beginning of this week, according to data from the Department of Water Development. These are occupancy rates that are close to three times the corresponding period last year, when occupancy was only 17.8%, while it is important that these data do not include the latest heavy rainfall, which is estimated to further improve the data.
The situation in the dams of the Paphos district is as follows:
In Asprokremmos, the second largest dam in Cyprus, the occupancy rate is 40.3% according to the last measurement, compared to only 17.4% in the same period last year.
In Evretou 46.2% compared to 18.8% respectively.
In Kannaviou 49.4% compared to 19.3%.
In Mavrokolympos 69.2% compared to zero savings last year due to the now known breakdown.
In Argaka 81.9% compared to 16.3%.
In Pomos 85.8% compared to 23.8%.
In Agia Marina Chrysochous 86.2% compared to 20.5%.
These data, although clearly more auspicious than last year's, should not cause complacency, nor should it be considered that they can cover the water supply and irrigation needs of Paphos without any problem, emphasize the competent bodies who point out the paramount importance of continuing to carefully manage the problem.
