The implementation of the measures decided at the broad meeting on August 27 at the Paphos Municipal Hall to deal with the increasing phenomena of vandalism, is on the daily agenda of the municipal authorities of the Paphos district. Contacts with the relevant state departments for the promotion of the changes required in the legislation and for the approvals to take practical measures as requested by the local authorities, continue unabated, according to information from "F".
Already, the Municipality of Paphos has installed 55 cameras in public places to date to deal with phenomena of delinquency and vandalism of property, according to the Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, while in cooperation with the other authorities of the province, additional measures are being considered to deal with the now frequent phenomena of vandalism in public spaces of the cities.
As Mr. Onisiforou mentioned, there is already pre-approval from the competent state departments for the installation of another 60 cameras in public places after the installation of the appropriate infrastructure by the Municipality for their autonomous operation. It was requested, as he said, in particular, to place the stakes in which these cameras will be placed, to install photovoltaic systems in them so that they operate without the need for electrical supplies and to place cards on the cameras that can record visual material for 20-30 days.
It is important for the effectiveness of this effort, he stressed, the fact that it was agreed by all the Municipalities of our province to draw a common line on the issue so that the protection of public properties and the treatment of anti-social actions is effective. In this context, the Mayor said, there will be a specific protocol for the storage of the visual material and its inspection with the participation of representatives of the local authorities and the Police, in order to ensure the proper use of what was recorded.
The Mayors of Akamas and Polis Chrysochous, Marinos Lambrou and Yiotis Papachristofi, as well as the Deputy Mayor of Ierokipia, Andreas Siikkis, who attended the meeting at the Paphos Municipal Hall, agreed on the joint promotion of the measures promoted to the state departments in order to make the necessary arrangements that will allow the installation and operation of surveillance circuits in their public spaces.
