MEDYAN AL SHABAN [19] WANTED - ESCAPED FROM LAKATAMIA DETENTION CENTRE - 25/9
A Syrian prisoner managed to escape from the Lakatamia detention center.Medyan al Shaban, 19 years old, Syrian national, is wanted to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of escape from legal detention, which was committed on 25/09/2026, in the province of Nicosia.
Anyone who knows anything that can help locate him is kindly requested to contact the Nicosia Police Department at 22802222, or the nearest Police Station, or the Citizen's Line at 1460.
The above information was brought to our attention shortly after 22:00 and was confirmed to Filenews competently. For the time being, the exact circumstances under which the prisoner managed to escape are not clear.
This is not the first time that the issue of these detention centers has been raised, even though they are considered to be the most appropriate detention facilities managed by the Police.
We remind you that on 25/1/2024, a 28-year-old Greek Cypriot indicted had escaped.
The 28-year-old had managed to move part of the masonry. It is a window made of glass bricks, which was inserted into the wall of his detention center. The defendant managed to remove the mortar and other materials that connected the window in question to the wall, using a sharp instrument.
We were informed that he removed a metal rod from a detention center intended for people with disabilities (it is a motor support rod that is screwed to the wall) and hid it inside his own detention area.
It should be noted that based on our information, due to overcrowding of prisoners (convicts or undertrials) during this period the detention center for people with disabilities was not used for the purpose it was created.
