War between two local authorities in Paphos district over water. In an unusual move, the community authority of the village of Goudi, in the Chrysochous district, today formalized its intention to turn off the water taps that pass through its network to the neighboring community of Chrysochous, due to unpaid bills.
A relevant announcement issued clarifies that the Community Council of Goudi is proceeding with this measure from Friday, October 2 and indefinitely, due to the non-payment of the debts of the former community of Chrysochous, which is now part of the Municipality of the City, to the Community of Goudi.
The authorities of the community claim that the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous has been repeatedly informed about the specific debts, by sending the relevant invoices, receipts and other information related to the water supply and the garbage collection service corresponding to the Community of Chrysochous, until June 30, 2024.
Nevertheless, the community authority of Goudi emphasizes, the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous has not proceeded with their payment. Both the Paphos District Administration and the Ministry of Interior and the Auditor General of the Republic have been informed about the issue. Unfortunately, despite repeated efforts to resolve the issue, it has not been possible to reach an agreement and pay off the debts, which is why the Goudi Community Council has no choice but to proceed with the interruption of the water supply to the Community of Chrysochous from Friday, October 2 and until the settlement of the debts.
The Goudi Community Council regrets this development and hopes that the issue will be resolved immediately, so that the water supply can be restored for the benefit of all residents.
