''WHAT REMAINS AFTER FOUR YEARS OF THE UKRAINIAN HOUSE?''
A few rooms?
Hundreds
of events held?
Thousands
of photos?
Children's drawings on the walls?
Probably not. People remain.
The
Ukrainian House in Paphos has never been just a room.
People
laughed and cried within our walls.
Here
they found friends.
Here
new ideas were born.
Here
teams appeared.
Here
children grew up almost as one big family.
And we were also a little proud that the Ukrainian flag was flying just opposite the residence of the Russian ambassador. It was a small but very symbolic gesture. A daily reminder that Ukraine exists. And will always exist.
Behind all this were people: our teachers, our volunteers, parents, children, our partners and everyone who opened the doors of the Ukrainian House at least once.
Thank you. Without you this story simply would not exist.
Today we are forced to say honestly: The Ukrainian House is going through the most difficult period in its entire existence. Due to the loss of funding, we can no longer maintain our premises.
If we do not find a solution by September 1, we will have to close our doors. If we are lucky enough to find at least a little support, we will be able to postpone it for another month.
And here it is important to say honestly: we are not looking for temporary salvation. We are ready to move to a smaller and cheaper premises, ready to start practically from scratch - if only the history of the Ukrainian House could continue. We need not one-time miracles, but people who are ready to support us regularly, even with a small amount every month.
We are not looking for one big benefactor. We are looking for people who will say: “I also want the Ukrainian House to remain.” Because great things very rarely depend on one person. Most often, they depend on hundreds of people who do what they can.
We are not asking to save the building. We ask to preserve the place where the Ukrainian community of Paphos has been living for over four years, ie help us fund, ie pay the rent, for a 'home' for the Ukrainian community.
We do not know how this story will end. Perhaps these are the last weeks of the Ukrainian Home in its current premises. Or perhaps its new chapter is beginning right now. And if it begins, it will only be because there were people nearby who decided that it was essential such a place should continue.
Ukrainian Home is people. And as long as we have each other, this story still has a chance to continue.”

Why the Ukrainian Home in Paphos is important and deserves support.
Ukrainian women with children started to flee to Paphos in February 2022, escaping from a war, when Russia invaded Ukraine.
Nobody
knew it would last for so long a time
We, as a community of Paphos helped thousands of refugees from the beginning: gathered food for them, clothes, found them accommodation, helped with arranging documents.
We created the Ukrainian Home in Paphos, a non-profit organization, not expecting the war to last as long as it has. This has become central to the lives of all the Ukrainian refugees.
Now the Ukrainian Home in Paphos needs some extra support . Unfortunately, they lost the person, who paid for the rent of their premises. They are searching for new premises right now and as the Government and Embassy are a long shot they appeal to the community for support in order to survive and retain a center.
They
need this center, because
Ukrainian
children use this center on a weekly basis : piano, dombra, art, Greek, English,
maths, chess lessons. Also they have a library there. It provides the children with an opportunity to meet their friends, speak their own language and play their own games.
Ukrainians make concerts, exhibitions, watch movies, have the help of a psychologist there. The center has been run by volunteers only for 4.5 years.
