The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
As a result of the preventive policing operations, 17 persons were arrested for various offenses, such as possession of drugs, possession of burglary tools and carrying knives, illegal stay on the territory of the Republic, as well as pending court fine warrants.
As part of these operations, during the night, 445 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 556 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 47 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, from which four complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 256 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 17 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged. As part of the police examinations, 16 vehicles were detained.
Of the complaints made about traffic violations, 71 complaints concerned exceeding the speed limit. Four complaints were made about driving under the influence of alcohol, while four cases of driving under the influence of drugs emerged, after preliminary drug tests. For driving under the influence of alcohol, 124 checks were carried out on vehicle drivers, while for driving under the influence of drugs, eight driver checks were carried out.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

On 12/8/2026, officials of the Customs Department, as part of the usual checks they carry out for the implementation of the Green Line Regulation at the Agios Dometios Crossing Point, stopped a vehicle with registration numbers of the Republic of Cyprus, driven by a foreigner, in the evening.
During the inspection carried out on the vehicle, 245 kg of cattle skins and offal were found in its storage area, in violation of the Green Line Regulation, which expressly prohibits the transport of animals and/or animal products from the occupied to the free areas of the Republic of Cyprus.
The officials of the Customs Department proceeded to confiscate both the animal products and the vehicle as their means of transport. The person involved was arrested for the spontaneous offenses and taken to detention. Earlier today, he was released, with the payment of an administrative fine imposed on him by the Veterinary Services of €2,000 plus €500 for the return of the vehicle by the Customs Department. The seized products will follow the prescribed destruction procedure.

The 62-year-old victim of the attempted murder in Vrysoules committed on August 8, 2025, when a 49-year-old man dragged him with his car near the premises where the two worked, died on Wednesday, August 12. The information was confirmed to Filenews by the Police.
It is recalled that the 62-year-old had been hospitalized since the day of the assassination attempt, however he had previously been transferred to a rehabilitation center.
A 49-year-old man was arrested in November for the case, who was referred to trial for attempted murder. It is worth noting that the indictment will not be amended, since as the Police told Filenews, according to the Criminal Code, in order for a case to be considered a murder, a year and a day must not pass from the death of the victim.
The exact causes of death of the 62-year-old will be ascertained by the legal autopsy on his body. The victim leaves behind a wife and two children.
The chronicle of the case
The perpetrator and victim were colleagues and worked in a company that packs eggs in Vrysoules. Shortly before the assassination attempt on the afternoon of Friday, August 8, the two were seen arguing. The 48-year-old then allegedly entered his car and after starting it, he headed towards the 61-year-old and violently hit him, as a result of which he was thrown to the ground and hit his head.
The injured man was transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Famagusta and was found to have suffered a skull fracture and a cerebral haemorrhage. He was then intubated and taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where he underwent a long surgery.

A traffic accident with a four-wheeled motorcycle occurred around 11:00 a.m., yesterday Wednesday, in the area of the Sea Caves, in Cape Greco.
The Police were called to the scene and from the examinations that followed, it was found that the four-wheeled motorcycle was driven by a 22-year-old woman, with a 26-year-old passenger as a passenger.
While the 22-year-old was trying to park in the parking lot of the Sea Caves, she lost control of the four-wheeled motorcycle, as a result of which she and her passenger fell to the ground.
The four-wheeled motorcycle continued its course and ended up in the sea, where it sank.
The 22-year-old driver was injured in the accident, who was taken to the First Aid of the General Hospital of Famagusta where it was found that she suffered a vertebral fracture and is being held for treatment.

Six persons were arrested during a coordinated night operation by ADE Limassol and MMAD, as part of the actions to prevent and combat crime and juvenile delinquency.
According to the Police, two persons, aged 31 and 36, were arrested for possession of burglary tools during the night, as well as for illegal possession of a small amount of Class A and B drugs. At the same time, it was found that they were driving a vehicle without a certificate of suitability and a registration certificate.
As part of the operation, a 46-year-old man, who is a gamekeeper, was also arrested for offenses related to carrying a knife and possession of a device for launching harmful gas.
Also, a 19-year-old man was arrested for traffic violations and possession of a class B controlled pharmaceutical product, while a 31-year-old woman was also handcuffed for a knife carrying case.
The fifth arrest concerns a person against whom fine warrants were pending.
At the same time, members of ADE Limassol carried out checks on the secondary road network and policing of the countryside, proceeding to a total of 15 complaints for various traffic violations.
Police operations are expected to continue with the aim of preventing crime, dealing with juvenile delinquency and strengthening road safety.

The Police request the referral of the 51-year-old Romanian monk of the Monastery of Agios Neophytos to a direct trial in the Criminal Court, on charges of attempted murder. This follows from the proceedings that are underway before the Paphos District Court.
The 51-year-old monk is being brought before the court again at this time as the six-day detention order issued last Saturday expires. The Police requested that he be directly referred to a Criminal Court for the charges against him, the main of which is attempted murder.
We remind you that the 51-year-old monk allegedly attacked a 53-year-old conservator in the monastery during the incident that took place inside the monastery with a sharp instrument against a 53-year-old conservator whom he seriously injured, as well as against a novice monk who injured his hand more slightly.
