The National Guard has acquired the ability to design, develop and produce small unmanned aerial vehicles (sUAV/FPV) through a newly established laboratory operating in the 12th Technician Battalion.
According to information from filenews, the order for the creation of the laboratory was given by the Chief of the National Guard, Emmanuel Theodorou, and so for the first time, the laboratory was set up in the summer with the ability to produce small drones (sUAV/FPV). These drones will have the ability to be monitored, reconnaissance, and in the future they will also be configured for strike missions.
The workshop was visited by the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Theodorou, who was informed about the process of design, development and production of unmanned systems, as well as the possibilities of their further development and operational utilization.
Particular emphasis is placed on the development of domestic know-how, as the operation of the laboratory allows the National Guard to develop small unmanned systems adapted to its operational needs.
According to the information, the new capability is part of its wider technological and operational transformation, with the aim of enhancing autonomy and the ability to quickly adapt to the requirements of the modern field of business. In fact, as reported in a previous report by Filenews, the National Guard will equip all units of all formations, at all levels with drones, which is expected to be done in the coming years.
The use of FPV systems and small UAVs has gained increased importance in modern fields of operations, with the Armed Forces internationally investing in the development of similar technologies.
