NEW SCAM WITH MOBILE MESSAGES FOR ALLEGED OUT OF COURT NOTICES DUE TO TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS - RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE POLICE

NEW SCAM WITH MOBILE MESSAGES FOR ALLEGED OUT OF COURT NOTICES DUE TO TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS - RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE POLICE - Filenews 5/8

The Police made a recommendation to citizens to delete messages (sms) related to alleged out-of-court notices of the Traffic Police or any others that cause suspicion.

Following complaints from citizens on our website, we contacted the Police, conveying the message in question which stated the following:

Traffic Police Call – Cyprus Police

Attention: An outstanding speed limit violation is pending for your vehicle.

Settle the payment or submit an objection electronically until its expiration (s.s. the relevant link was attached).

The expiration of the deadline leads to surcharges and referral to Justice.

As a Police officer emphasizes, this is fraud. "The Police do not send messages about extrajudicial violations. Anything sent to citizens with this or similar content is fraud."

Therefore, the police officer emphasizes, citizens should delete these messages and not open any link included in them.

At the same time, it was mentioned that these scams are a very common phenomenon and that many incidents have been recorded in the last year for online and telephone scams.

"Citizens should not respond. If there is any doubt or if there are questions about any out-of-court traffic police, they can visit the Police page or call a police station."
