MASTERPLAN FOR THE TRADITIONAL CORE OF PEGEIA - Filenews 11/8 by Dora Christodoulou
A comprehensive Masterplan, for the preparation of all the required studies and the provision of supervision services during the implementation of the project, is being prepared in the Municipality of Akamas with the aim of the total regeneration and revitalization of the traditional core of Pegeia.
The first step for the ambitious planning was taken with the signing of the contract between the Municipality of Akamas and an architectural firm for the provision of Consulting Designer services for the preparation of a Masterplan and studies for the revitalization and regeneration of the traditional core of the Municipal District of Pegeia.
The value of the signed contract amounts to approximately 250 thousand euros, while the estimated construction cost of the entire project amounts to approximately €5.5 million.
The Mayor of Akamas, Marinos Lambrou, stressed that with the start of the study, the foundations are laid for the integrated design of an important intervention aimed at the functional and aesthetic upgrade of the historic core of Pegeia, with respect to its architectural physiognomy, its cultural heritage and the needs of the local community.
The regeneration of the core of Pegeia could not fail to include the most brilliant example of the area, the famous Fountain of Pegeiotisses, for which the municipal authority has also proceeded to an agreement for its maintenance and promotion.
