Several areas of the island have been plunged into darkness, as there are failures in the EAC network due to severe weather phenomena and many lightning strikes, which cause damage to equipment of the electricity network. "Hours will pass. The problem cannot be solved by magic", the EAC spokesperson, Christina Papadopoulou, underlines to Filenews and asks for the patience of the people.
The inconvenience of the citizens is great, with long waits at the call centers, which have been reinforced with additional staff, says Ms. Papadopoulou.
"The problems are observed in the province of Famagusta, Nicosia, Larnaca, Paphos. In all except Limassol. Staff have been recalled, they are all on foot and running to repair the damage, as soon as possible. We even had fires, such as in Kokkinotrimithia. Patience is needed on the part of the fans. There are too many incidents. The crews run for the big breakdowns and then the smaller ones. Hours will pass. The problem cannot be solved by magic."
"For safety reasons and for the protection of our people in cases where there is lightning activity, it is forbidden to proceed with work."
Asked which areas are facing the most serious problem, Ms. Papadopoulou said that it is the Larnaca area, the community of Avgoros, due to the fact that the network was struck by lightning.
He also said that in the province of Nicosia, the supply of electricity is interrupted in places due to lightning activity with the situation becoming more difficult due to the deterioration of the weather.
The EAC spokeswoman said that due to the situation, all crews are on foot, while staff has been recalled. He added that safety is paramount, with crews on standby so that they can subsequently carry out the repair work, appealing to the public for patience.
