He filed an appeal requesting the annulment of the decision of the Asylum Service d. 22/02/24, not to recognize him as a political refugee or to give him subsidiary protection status.
In his application in question, the applicant records that he was a building contractor and executed "small contracts", he was kidnapped in 2019 by the Ambazonians and asked to pay them money to free him. Subsequently, the army arrested him for interrogation and released him after 4 days and after that, one day, as he reports, the Ambazonians started looking for and threatening the applicant, saying that he betrayed them and the army - respectively - is looking for him because they believe that the applicant is cooperating with the Ambazonians. As the applicant further states, they went (he does not specify who) and burned his house and then he ran into the forest and a client helped him arrange the necessary things to travel to Cyprus and seek asylum.
The Administrative Court of International Protection, which examined his appeal and heard the arguments of both his side and the Asylum Service, ruled that "the applicant's narrative is full of gaps, ambiguities and shortcomings and at no point in his words in relation to both his alleged abduction by Ambazonians, his detention by them, The payment of a ransom, his subsequent release, as well as what followed him, with the alleged search for him by the police, his arrest and detention by them and the issuance of a warrant against him, he was not able to mention the slightest detail or experiential evidence.
On all the above aspects of his narrative, the allegations presented by the applicant fell far short of a complete, coherent, plausible juxtaposition of points and details, which would be unlikely to be noticed or even able to recall a person who had not lived the experience that the applicant cites, from which the internal coherence of the applicant's words is significantly eroded, to the point that any other approach to his words would constitute a naïve and unconditional acceptance of claims that lack any trace of plausibility and detail."
The Court concluded that although the wider south-western region has a relatively high number of security incidents and civilian casualties, however, given that the applicant's place of residence is the city of Buea, I do not consider that there is a reasonable likelihood that the applicant will face a risk of serious harm on his return because of the frequency and intensity of security incidents there, where he or she is reasonably expected to return, is not at such a high level as to result in a "serious and personal threat to life or physical integrity".
Following that conclusion, it dismissed the application.

The Court of Appeal rejected the appeal of a 26-year-old Indian student and upheld his detention order until November 13, 2026, after he was referred to a direct trial before a Criminal Court for a total of ten charges concerning, among others, importation, possession and possession for the purpose of supplying a Class A controlled drug, as well as the use of a Class A controlled drug.

The Court of Appeal rejected all the grounds of appeal. Regarding the possibility of conviction, he noted that, although no scientific analysis had been presented on the contents of the dried poppy heads that were confiscated, before the court of first instance, there were testimonies of YKAN members, according to which dried heads were found in the package delivered to the accused. In addition, during the search of his residence, other quantities of the same plant material were found, while he had stated in his interrogation testimony that he had imported the plants from abroad, claiming that he did not know that they were prohibited in Cyprus.
The court also pointed out that during the first instance proceedings, the defense had not questioned the possibility of a conviction or the imposition of a severe sentence, but had focused its argumentation on the personal circumstances of the accused.
In relation to the allegations of a defective indictment, the Court of Appeal held that issues such as the actual weight of the seized substance, the existence of evidence of possession for the purpose of supply and the absence of drug manufacturing equipment are issues that will be examined during the trial of the case by the Criminal Court and not in the context of the appeal against the detention order.
Regarding the 26-year-old's personal circumstances, the court took into account that he has been in Cyprus for about three years, is a student and a restaurant worker, plans to renew his student residence permit and that his fiancée, who also lives in Cyprus, is facing serious health problems And, according to his claims, it depends on his care. However, he ruled that this evidence is not enough to outweigh the public interest in ensuring his presence at the trial, while noting that his fiancée can turn to the relevant state services for the necessary support.
In conclusion, the Court of Appeal held that the court of first instance acted within the jurisprudential framework, correctly assessed the risk of evasion of justice and dismissed the appeal in its entirety.

The Police in Limassol arrested two men, aged 36 and 48, after locating a car that had been reported as stolen.
