On the occasion of the incident that took place yesterday, August 7, 2026, in our Monastery and in order to restore the truth and avoid misinformation, the Holy Monastery wishes to clarify the following:
The incident concerns a deacon of the Monastery, originally from a European country, who lived in the Monastery for a number of years.
The issue that preceded concerned the refusal of the monk in question for about four years to hand over a specific room of the Monastery, in which his father was accommodated for about twenty years, until his passing. Throughout the four years, the Abbot of the Monastery showed special patience, leniency and understanding, making repeated efforts to deliver the room and providing the necessary time limits.
After the morning service of August 7, in the presence of other members of the brotherhood, he was asked again to hand over the place and, after his refusal, the incident followed, in which two people were injured, an employee of the Monastery and a novice monk. The injured were taken to Paphos General Hospital for the necessary medical treatment.
The Police were immediately informed and the injured employee filed a complaint. The Police have taken over the incident and are investigating the case.
The Holy Monastery cooperates fully with the competent authorities and fully respects the ongoing process. For this reason, he will not comment further on the events.
