309 alcohol tests were carried out, from which 36 complaints emerged

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As a result of the preventive police operations, fourteen persons were arrested for various offenses, such as illegal possession of drugs, illegal stay in the Republic, assault on a police officer, carrying knives and traffic offenses.

As part of these operations, during the night, 490 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 657 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 46 inspections were carried out in premises with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, during which two complaints emerged.

During traffic checks carried out, 212 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 23 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.

Of the complaints made, 91 concerned exceeding the speed limit, while as part of the police examinations, 12 vehicles were detained.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested last night in Ayia Napa by members of ADE Famagusta regarding the offenses of assault against a Police Officer, resistance during legal arrest, insult, concern and disturbance of peace.

Specifically, and around 2250 hours, while the members were conducting traffic arrangements, the 19-year-old approached them and started shouting and insulting them. The members of the Police proceeded to arrest her for the self-inflicted offenses she committed. During the arrest, he resisted, as a result of which he was arrested for the spontaneous offenses of assault on a police officer and resisting legal arrest.

The 19-year-old was then transferred to the Ayia Napa Police Officer and after being charged in writing for the offenses she committed, she was released to be summoned later before a Court.

A fire at an abandoned house in Ayia Zoni, Limassol, on Sunday evening was reportedly started deliberately, the fire brigade said on Monday.

Two fire engines responded to the incident at about 9.40pm and brought the fire under control at 9.58pm.

The contents of the house were extensively damaged from the fire and heat, while part of the pergola roof of a neighbouring house was also damaged.


The cause of the fire is being investigated, but initial findings indicate arson.
