The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
As a result of the preventive police operations, six persons were arrested for various offenses, such as theft from a car, illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, illegal possession of drugs, assault on a police officer, etc.
As part of these operations, 446 drivers and 131 passengers were stopped and checked overnight. At the same time, 38 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, where two complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 246 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 14 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.
Of the complaints made, 68 complaints from drivers for exceeding the speed limit stand out, while as part of the police examinations, eight vehicles were detained.
162 alcohol tests were carried out, from which one complaint emerged, while three cases of driving under the influence of drugs also emerged, after a preliminary drug test.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

The Police are investigating a case of assault, injury, and possession of offensive instruments in Larnaca, after an attack committed in the area of the stadiums of Nea Salamina, where an event for the fans of the Club was held last night.
According to the data under investigation, around midnight, last night, in the area of the auxiliary fields of "Famagusta-Epistrosi", a number of about 30 people, approached and attacked with bats on people who had attended the celebratory event of the Association.
Three people were injured in the attack, men aged 21, 23 and 28. The 23-year-old and 28-year-old, who were injured in the hand and head respectively, were treated at Larnaca General Hospital, where they were later discharged. The 21-year-old, who was also injured and had to be taken to Nicosia General Hospital for treatment. According to information, he suffered a facial fracture. His condition is considered by doctors to be out of danger.
Authorities are proceeding with the analysis of closed surveillance circuits to identify the perpetrators who are believed to belong to another football club. According to the complaint, among the perpetrators were allegedly persons wearing clothes with AEK Larnaca insignia.
The case is being investigated by the Larnaca Police Department.

The Board of Directors of NEA SALAMINA FAMAGUSTA condemns unequivocally and in the most categorical way the cowardly attack that four volunteers of our Association received by a group of 40-50 hooded men, late in the evening of Sunday, August 23, at the auxiliary stadium of the "FAMAGUSTA – EPITORNI" Stadium.
After the completion of yesterday's Fan Day, an event-institution organized by our Association for its people, volunteers remained in the area, in order to protect the equipment of the event. During their stay there, they were subjected to an unprovoked and organized attack, as a result of which they were seriously injured and had to be transported to the hospital.
At the same time, the attitude of the Police is causing particular concern and intense concern, which, according to testimonies of residents of the area, had been informed about the presence of delinquent elements around the "FAMAGUSTA - RETURN" Stadium.
The Board of Directors expresses its full support and support to the injured volunteers and fans of our Club and wishes them a speedy and full recovery.
At the same time, our Association will make an official complaint of the incident to the Police, submitting all available evidence and evidence. We demand a full, objective and in-depth investigation of the incident, as well as the identification and bringing to justice those responsible.
Violence, fanaticism and the targeting of people who voluntarily contribute to sports have no place either in football or in our society.

The investigators of the attempted murder committed in the early hours of Friday in Ayia Napa, with the victim being a 33-year-old Greek Cypriot, who was not injured, are waiting for direction from the scientific examinations.
At this stage, the investigations continue in the dark, given that no testimonies or evidence were found for the perpetrators, who are believed, however, that they wanted to send a message to the 48-year-old lifer about the quadruple murder in Ayia Napa, who is the brother of the 33-year-old.
According to information from police sources, in the next twenty-four hours a statement will be taken from the lifer in the Central Prison, as well as from other persons. The investigators of the TAE Famagusta are waiting, for two reasons, for the results of the ballistic tests on the approximately 15 shell casings found at the scene.
The first is how they will show if two people shot in the direction of the 33-year-old and the second for the type of firearm or weapons.
Under the microscope of the Criminal Investigation Service of the Police Headquarters, is also the stolen Volvo used by the perpetrators, which was found burned in an area in Avgorou shortly after the murder attempt.
The Police are also processing material from closed circuit surveillance, which has not given answers so far, given that the area of the attempted murder is sparsely populated. The search for material from the possible escape routes of the perpetrators continues, which are estimated to be at least two.
The only certainty, so far, is that the perpetrators wanted the 33-year-old, who is active in the Ayia Napa area, dead. The latter miraculously escaped, since most of the shots were found on the right side of his vehicle. What is estimated to have saved him is the fact that he continued the course of his car.
It is noted that the attempted murder was committed at 05:40 in the early hours of last Friday, a few meters away from the victim's house, located in the Kokkines area.
The perpetrators had hidden and were waiting for him. When he tried to turn right, they opened fire on him.

The Police in Larnaca arrested a 39-year-old Iranian on Monday night, after an incident in which the man allegedly caused a disturbance and attacked a member of the Police.
According to the Police, the incident took place shortly after 11 pm, when its members found the 39-year-old lying on the ground, in an open area of the city.
He is a recognized political refugee, who is homeless and according to the same information has been repeatedly spotted sleeping on the street.
The Police intervened, having as their first goal the safety of him. However, when the 39-year-old realized the presence of the police, he allegedly became angry, started shouting and making threats, causing a stir in the area.
Then, according to the Police, he attacked one of the police officers who were at the scene.
The 39-year-old was arrested and taken into custody.

British Bases Police confirms 34 arrests in the last week
British Base Police (BB) made 34 arrests over the past seven days for various offences, including eight counts of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
At the same time, the police are investigating four different cases involving drugs, in three of which quantities estimated to be cocaine were found.
A total of 30 road safety campaigns were carried out throughout the BB region, during which 63 out-of-court fines were issued for traffic violations, while 25 alcohol tests were carried out using breathalyzers.
In another particularly busy week for the BB Police, the police in the area of Dhekelia confirmed, in the early hours of Saturday, the successful completion of a joint search and rescue operation between the BB Police, the Search and Rescue Coordination Centre and the Cyprus Police, during which two men, aged 25 and 37, were located and rescued unharmed, at a distance of one and a half nautical miles from the coast.
At a time when several drowning incidents have been recorded in Cyprus, including the tragic death of a 72-year-old man in the area of Dhekelia on August 17, the Assistant Police Director, Police Officer Melina Papagrigoriou wanted to warn of the possible dangers at sea.
She said: "These incidents are a timely reminder that sea conditions can change very quickly. We call on all those who use our beaches and coastal areas to stay aware of weather and sea conditions, avoid unnecessary risks and seek immediate help if they notice someone in distress."
At the same time, an investigation is underway into an arson incident in the area of BB Akrotiri, after a fire in a vehicle on Sunday morning, which, according to the assessments of the competent authorities so far, seems to have been deliberately targeted.
Police Officer Papagrigoriou then stated: "Our current assessment is that one of the vehicles was deliberately targeted and that the fire then spread to a second vehicle, which was parked nearby. Our investigation is ongoing as we continue to investigate the motive and full circumstances surrounding the incident."
Referring to the events of the last seven days, she added: "It has been a particularly demanding week for both our Directorates, with incidents ranging from the protection and loss of human life at sea, to drug cases, dangerous driving and serious criminal investigations.
"Our police officers continue to combine immediate emergency response with preventive policing in both BB areas. We will continue to maintain a visible and professional police presence, working with our communities and partners, with the aim of ensuring the safety of citizens."

Two foreigners, aged 40 and 29, were sentenced today by the Paphos District Court for driving under the influence of alcohol. The two were arrested by Paphos Traffic Police in January driving in different cases with many times more alcohol in their body than the maximum allowed by law.
In particular, the 40-year-old was found at the wheel with a reading of 97 instead of 9mg and the 29-year-old with 95 instead of 9mg. The court fined the first defendant €1700 and the second €1500. Both were additionally deprived of their driver's license for 10 weekends and 15 days, as well as seven penalty points.

An 18-year-old male has been arrested over the alleged possession and circulation of counterfeit banknotes, the police said on Tuesday.
Officers in the Famagusta district acted on a tip-off regarding two €50 notes sharing the same serial number and retrieved them from an employee of a local business.
They later identified an 18-year-old suspect, who was found with two additional €50 notes featuring the same serial number.
A search of his hotel room revealed another 19 notes with the same serial number, all of which were seized as evidence.
He is set to appear at Famagusta district court in Paralimni later on Tuesday, while the police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
