CIRCUITOUS ROUTES FOR CYCLISTS IN PAPHOS

CIRCUITOUS ROUTES FOR CYCLISTS IN PAPHOS - Pafos Live 17/8

Paphos is the only district that has a double-digit number of mapped Gravel Cycling +1 Long Distance Circular routes in the wider Paphos area. Recently, new ones have been mapped.

Specifically, 2 routes start from Paphos-Ierokipia, 2 from the Municipality of Akamas and 2 from the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, while the seventh long-distance route covers more than 40 communities in a circle and a length of more than 310 km. The 6 routes cover a distance of more than 370 kilometers and pass through four Municipalities and more than 35 communities throughout the province.

In total, the routes cover distances of more than 680 km, an initiative that places the province dynamically on the map of the most up-and-coming cycling trends worldwide.

The routes are designed based on international gravel quality criteria, offering:

  • Safe and low traffic mainly natural paths
  • Alternation of surfaces and technical degrees of difficulty
  • access to unique natural landscapes of the countryside, Akamas, Laona and Polis Chrysochous
  • connection with points of ecotourism and cultural interest

With lengths and degrees of difficulty covering all categories of riders – from beginners to experienced athletes – the routes are expected to be a strong attraction for cyclists from Cyprus and abroad, enhancing Paphos' positioning as a year-round destination for special forms of tourism.

Their creation is another step in the province's strategic goal of developing sustainable, nature-loving and sporting experiences that are in harmony with the natural environment of the destination and the philosophy of European green tourism.

Paphos is now becoming one of the first destinations in Cyprus with an adequate network of Gravel Routes, offering the visitor unique contact with nature, high-quality challenges and possibilities for a combination of sports, adventure and culture.

The routes were created in collaboration with Activate Cyprus and are available digitally through GPX files and interactive maps. In addition to their promotion on the specialized Komoot platform, they will be added to other international gravel and cycling tourism platforms in the near future.

At the same time, the promotion of the routes and the destination will be enhanced, among others in various Gravel clubs abroad, internationally renowned cyclists through other PR actions and specialized training camp organizers!
