A total of 65 products that may endanger the health and safety of consumers were notified last week to the European early warning system Safety Gate, the Consumer Protection Agency announced on Monday.
The notifications concern the week starting 17 August 2026 and include a wide range of products, including toys and childcare items, electrical appliances and equipment, cosmetics, clothing and footwear, motor vehicles, personal protective equipment and sports and leisure products.
The list also includes kitchen items, chemical products, furniture, construction products and pyrotechnic articles.
The risks recorded are multiple and, depending on the product, include drowning, electric shock, fire, burns and injuries, as well as chemical hazards, risk of cutting and possible damage to vision or hearing.
The Consumer Protection Service is the single point of contact in Cyprus for the operation of Safety Gate, the European Union's early warning system for dangerous non-food products.
The 65 products were identified on the markets of several EU Member States and then communicated through the Safety Gate to inform the competent authorities and consumers.
Controls in the Cypriot market as well
For the purpose of controlling the Cypriot market, the products were allocated to the relevant government departments, depending on the category they fall into.
In particular, 19 products concern the Consumer Protection Service, 15 the Department of Labour Inspection, nine the Department of Electromechanical Services, eight the Department of Environment and seven the Department of Road Transport.
Five other products concern the Department of Pharmaceutical Services, one the Mining Service and one the Ministry of the Interior and in particular the Construction Products Sector.
The full list of 65 products, together with the competent authorities to which they have been forwarded, has been made public by the Consumer Protection Service.
Consumers can also search directly at the Safety Gate for products for which warnings have been issued in order to be informed about the risks and measures taken.
Call for cessation of use
The Consumer Protection Service invites economic operators who have or have placed on the market any of the specific products to immediately inform the respective competent Authority.
At the same time, it recommends that consumers who have one of the products in their possession, where necessary, stop using it and return it to the store from which they purchased it.
They are also invited to inform the competent authority about the specific product.
