The administrative crisis that has plagued the Youth Board of Cyprus (ONEK) for months, causes a host of difficulties and dysfunctions in various issues and issues that the Organization has to manage, some of which are or are expected to be up in the air soon. This is because decisions and approvals are required from the Board of Directors, which in this case, does not exist. Following the resignations of the members of the Board of Directors last February, the Organization essentially remained headless, waiting for the political decision to appoint a new Board of Directors, so that it can operate and return to normality.
One of the issues that remain pending in case the issue of the Board of Directors is not settled soon is the various contracts that ONEK has for the provision of support services to young people. One of them concerns a program offered in collaboration with the CUT, with which the Organization has a contract. The contract in question expired at the end of June and this issue would be frozen, due to the non-existence of a Board of Directors, despite the fact that in addition to services to young people, it also concerns the employment of people. Information from "F" states that breathing space was given - temporary - with a view to the end of July. Specifically, only for this month, approval was granted for the operation of summer programs, in the context of the service provided by the CUT. Something further cannot be done, as the approval of the Board of Directors is required.
It is worth noting that if the problem with the management of the Organization is perpetuated, there will be other difficulties and dead ends, such as the inability to continue working with professionals who offer services to young people, but even the preparation and "formalization" of the budget of the ONEK for 2027, which will have to be settled soon, as it will be submitted to the Parliament for discussion. Information from "F" states that the issue with the appointment of a new Board of Directors will be closed soon and will be announced.
