The Municipality of Latsia - Geri has three nature trails and Filenews walked them together with the mayor Christos Pittaras.
The path "Kakkaristra – Apalos" is located within the municipal district of Latsia and as can be seen in the pictures, there the citizens can see the gorge of Kakkaristra and the rocks or fossils found in the area, but their collection is not allowed according to the Geological Surveys Law (Law 140(I)2013). The route of the trail is 7 kilometers and its estimated coverage time is around 2 hours.
At the same time, the municipality has also created an amphitheatre, where citizens and not only can attend concerts organized by the municipality from time to time, with the next one scheduled for next September.
The starting point of the Kakkaristra – Apalou Trail is located next to the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute. To get there, one enters from the Pedagogical Institute and parks in the large parking lot on its left. The Path follows a course parallel to the river of Kakkaristra and then, after passing the cliff, it climbs the hill of Apalos. From there it continues south towards the road of the Olympic Shooting Range towards the heights of Kantara, up to the border with the Municipality of Lakatamia – Tseri. Those who will walk the path, after reaching its end, return by the exact same path back to its starting point through the tree-lined with carobs, wild olive trees, pines and lentisks of the location of Apalos.
The route is of particular interest since there is rich natural vegetation and the landscape is impressive. On the trail, the visitor will find information signs about local plants, shrubs, trees, many of which are endemic. Along the way, he has the opportunity to observe several species of wild birds, mammals, and reptiles such as the partridge, the goat, the frangolina, the lark, the pigeon, the hare, the hedgehog, the fox, the warbler and various other birds.
The "Kalogiros" Trail falls within the municipal boundaries of four municipalities, the Municipality of Latsia – Geri, the Municipality of Lakatamia, the Municipality of Strovolos and the Municipality of Nicosia. Its route takes 60 to 70 minutes and the total distance is 5.3 kilometers.
The route of the trail passes through natural vegetation and impressive landscapes. Along it, one can observe plants such as Kladini and Xistarka, as well as fauna species such as partridge, frangolina, lark, pigeon, hare, hedgehog, fox and warbler. On the path there are benches which were donated by the company Caterways.
The nature trail "Petra" is located within the municipal district of Geri, just behind the offices of the Municipal District of Geri. Along its route there are benches while a shelter is also created for visitors. Its route does not exceed an hour, while going up you have the opportunity to see the entire municipal district of Geri from above.
