A total of 5,200 students have visited the Akrotiri Environmental Education Center (KPEA) since September 2025, participating in specialized environmental educational programs aimed at Primary and Secondary Education students.
The Center, in collaboration with the Education Unit for the Environment and Sustainable Development (MEPAA) of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, hosted during the school year 160 school visits from all districts of Cyprus.
The Director of the Center, Dr. Thomas Hadjikyriakou, described the year as particularly productive, expressing his satisfaction with the large participation of the schools and stated: "Our educational programs covered a wide range of environmental issues, giving students and teachers the opportunity to learn about issues of ecology and culture through experiential experiences in the natural environment.
"Each visit begins with a compelling narrative about the creation of the Akrotiri Peninsula, highlighting the importance of sea turtle nesting beaches and the region's precious wetlands. Students then explore the exhibition spaces through an interactive QR code game, watch an informative film about the ecological value of the peninsula, observe the birds in Aliki with telescopes and participate in activities in the outdoor area of the Center."

The teacher of MEPAA, Mrs. Koula Michael, who serves at the Center, said:
"The Akrotiri Environmental Education Center operates daily, hosting school groups of all ages from all districts of Cyprus. Students aged five to eighteen, their teachers, as well as university groups, have the opportunity to get to know and interact with the natural environment of the Akrotiri Peninsula through a variety of activities, developing a deeper understanding of the world that surrounds them."

Among the most popular programs for Pre-Primary and Primary Education was "Magic – Nature – Senses", while for Secondary Education students the programs "Basketry in the village of Akrotiri", "The protected wetlands of the Akrotiri Peninsula and their importance", "Reduction of the ecological footprint" and "The operation of the Akrotiri Environmental Education Center" were offered.
The KPEA is located in the village of Akrotiri. For more information about the training programs and the application process, visit the MEPAA website at https://mepaa.moec.gov.cy/index.php/el/.
