MUNICIPALITY OF AKAMAS SUPPORTS ARCHAEOLOGISTS - Pafos Live 25/7
With the completion of this year's excavations this week, the municipal councillor of the municipality of Akamas, Neophytos Konstantinou, visited the archaeological site "Skalia" in Kissonerga. It is, as he notes, one of the most important and longest-lived settlements of the Bronze Age in Cyprus, with almost 800 years of continuous habitation (2500–1650 BC). Mr. Constantinou had the opportunity to meet the archaeological team of CAARI and HARP, under the direction of Dr. Lindy Crewe, which continues to reveal important facts about the history of our country.
Excavations have highlighted the evolution of the settlement, but also one of the oldest breweries in the world, confirming that beer was an important part of the social and ritual life of the inhabitants about 4,000 years ago. The municipal councillor of the municipality of Akamas thanked Dr. Lindy Crewe, all the archaeologists, researchers and students of the mission, as well as the Akamas School Board, which is hosting the team again this year.
It is particularly important to support such efforts, which highlight the history of Kissonerga and keep our cultural heritage alive, concluded Neophytos Konstantinou.
