The issue of transporting and using mobile phones and students' personal computers and tablets in their schools and of course, during class, caused intense discussions several months ago.
And this, against the backdrop of the decision to ban their use during school hours in Secondary Schools.
But what happens in primary schools and younger students? It is a fact that today, more and more children from an early age own mobile phones and personal electronic tablets.
In Primary Education, it is not only forbidden to use these devices while children are in their schools, but also to transport them.
This is clarified again, in a school guide of the Ministry of Education in view of the next school year, which begins for primary school students on September 14, with the aim of parents and children themselves knowing in time what is true.
Specifically, it is repeated that "in Primary Education, not only the use, but also the transfer of a mobile phone to school by children is prohibited", explaining that this decision was taken not to deprive the child of the right to communicate with his family - as this can be done from the school phone - but for other more substantial reasons.
These concern the avoidance of:
-The isolation of children during breaks, by calling or sending messages or playing games on their mobile phone, thus developing antisocial behaviour.
-The leakage of personal data of students and teachers.
-Causing health problems in children, since excessive use of the mobile phone, especially at a young age, seriously harms health, as experts claim.
-The creation of friction between children and their parents/guardians, whose financial situation does not allow them to buy them a mobile phone.
However, in addition to everyday life in schools, the use and transport of mobile phones and other smart devices is prohibited for primary school students even on the days when they go on a trip with the school.
As it is pointed out, the aim of the excursions is to give children the opportunity to get to know the natural, cultural and social environment of our country and, at the same time, to communicate with each other and with their teachers.
