MEETING OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF PAPHOS AND THE PORTS AUTHORITY FOR THE PORT OF KATO PAPHOS - Filenews 14/7 by Dora Christodoulou

A working meeting was held today between the Municipality of Paphos and the Cyprus Ports Authority, in the context of the close cooperation for the planning and promotion of important interventions in the Port of Kato Paphos.

During the meeting, the extension of the entrance to the port was discussed, as well as the extension of the breakwater on the back side of the Medieval Castle, with the aim of strengthening the protection of the historical monument and port facilities.

As part of the long-term planning, the possibility of creating a pier about 40–50 meters long, which could act as an anchorage for larger cruise ships, was also discussed. Such an infrastructure will significantly enhance the tourism product of Paphos, creating new prospects for the local economy and the further development of the area, the Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, pointed out to the representatives of the semi-governmental organization.

At the same time, the creation of a refuelling point within the port was examined, in order to serve professional and private boats safely and efficiently.

Particular emphasis was also placed on the proper management of waste coming from boats, by upgrading the system of collecting and disposing of it in the appropriate areas, contributing to the protection of the marine environment and the maintenance of the cleanliness of the port.

In the context of the aesthetic and functional upgrade of the coastal front, the design of a new single shelter in front of the shops was also discussed, which will follow the architecture and aesthetics of the existing shelters in the area.

At the same time, there was a discussion about the three existing shades that are currently located on the pedestrian street. These shades are licensed and any decision on their possible removal will be put before the Municipal Council for discussion and decision-making. Only if there is the required approval will any relevant action proceed, always with a view to improving the functionality and aesthetics of the public space, the Mayor stressed.

The cooperation of the Municipality of Paphos with the Cyprus Ports Authority continues with coordination, responsibility and a common vision for a modern, safe and functional port, which will protect our cultural heritage, strengthen the tourism product of Paphos and create new prospects for development for the benefit of citizens, professionals and visitors, Angelos Onisiforou pointed out after the meeting.
