EUROPEAN COMMISSION APPROVES 6th PAYMENT OF €120 million - Pafos Live 14/7
The European Commission has given its approval to Cyprus' sixth payment request, amounting to €120 million. under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, a key pillar of the NextGenerationEU programme.
According to a relevant announcement by the Commission, the positive assessment is based on the successful completion of 22 milestones and 5 targets, which concern reforms and investments in the fields of health, education, public administration, the business environment and the green transition.
Among the most important interventions are the creation of a new school evaluation system aimed at improving the quality of education, the operation of a cross-border health data exchange system, which allows the use of electronic prescriptions and patient records, the implementation of flexible forms of work in the public sector, the upgrade of the electronic system for issuing planning and building permits with new digital services, as well as the expansion of testing infrastructure for renewable energy and smart grids at the University of Cyprus.
The approval follows the sixth payment request submitted by Cyprus on 17 December 2025. The Commission's preliminary assessment has been forwarded to the EFC Economic and Financial Committee, which has four weeks to issue its opinion. Following the positive opinion and the official decision of the Commission, the disbursement of the €120 million will proceed.
In total, the Cypriot Recovery and Resilience Plan is financed with €1.02 billion in grants and includes reforms that strengthen the green and digital transitions, the competitiveness of the economy, health, education and justice.
With the disbursement of the sixth tranche, total payments to Cyprus under the RRF will amount to €683 million. including the pre-financing of €131 million in 2021 and the advance payment of €21 million under REPowerEU in 2024. This amount corresponds to 67% of the total funding of the Cyprus plan, while 62% of the planned milestones and targets have already been achieved.
