A fire in a maximum security wing broke out around 10:15 p.m. in the Central Prison, the Police said in a statement.
According to the evidence so far, three prisoners deliberately set fire to their cells and the corridor of the wing, in which ten people are being held.
Mattresses were burned by the fire and smoke damage was caused in the areas of the wing.
According to the Police, the staff members acted immediately and safely removed all the detainees from the wing. The Fire Service was called and went to the scene, which assisted in completely extinguishing the fire. There was no injury to a prisoner. A member of the Prison staff was taken to the hospital as a precaution due to smoke inhalation. The prisoners were temporarily transferred to another wing.
The circumstances under which the fire broke out are being investigated, the Police announcement concludes.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

The Customs Office proceeded with the seizure of undeclared luxury products at Larnaca Airport, worth €46.000.
In a relevant announcement by the Customs Department, it is stated that on 7/7/2026, its officers at Larnaca Airport, after evaluating information, found in the luggage of a couple of Russian passengers with Cypriot citizenship.
These are people aged 55 and 62 respectively, who came from Switzerland via France.
Two luxury wristwatches, clothing and footwear, with a total value of approximately €46,000, were found in the luggage, which they failed to declare for the payment of the corresponding duties and taxes.
Passengers were fined and charged a total of €5,022 for failing to declare, while the corresponding duties and taxes amounting to €10,221 were also collected.

The Anti-Drug Service (YKAN) proceeded with the seizure of quantities of the drugs ecstasy, cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as the arrest of two persons aged 29 and 31, after an operation carried out by members of the Service, yesterday in the province of Nicosia.
Shortly after 1:00 yesterday afternoon, members of YKAN tried to stop for inspection, a car driven by a 29-year-old man, on the Alhambra-Mosfiloti road, as part of an investigation of relevant information.
The 29-year-old collided with his car in two official vehicles and continued on his way, with members of the Police locating him in the Marki area, where the 29-year-old boarded another vehicle, driven by a 31-year-old man.
The 29-year-old and 31-year-old tried to escape control, as a result of which they collided with their car in an official vehicle and stopped at the scene. During their arrest, the 29-year-old attacked the members of the Police, who proceeded to arrest him, while after a knife was found in the car driven by the 31-year-old, he was also arrested.
Investigations followed in the area, where, according to the information under investigation, the 29-year-old and 31-year-old were hiding drugs, with the members of YKAN locating in an open field, as well as in a second place, in the Alhampras area, the following quantities of drugs:
- 170 drug pills, known as ecstasy, with a total gross weight of 85 grams
- Quantity of white powder similar to cocaine, with a total gross weight of 40 grams
- A quantity of a white crystalline substance, similar to methamphetamine, with a gross weight of 400 grams, as well as
- Two precision electronic scales, with traces of white cocaine powder
The searches also continued in a residence in the area, where, according to the data under examination, the 29-year-old and 31-year-old live. A sum of €4.150, a mobile phone, a tablet-type computer, as well as two drones were located and detained for examinations at the residence.
Arrest warrants were issued against the 29-year-old and the 31-year-old, under which they were arrested and taken into custody, for the purpose of investigating a case of drug possession, possession of drugs for the purpose of supplying another person, money laundering, as well as traffic offenses.

A case of shooting at a building where several companies are housed on Prophet Elias Street, in Germasogeia, is being investigated by the Limassol Police Department.
According to the information so far, the incident is estimated to have occurred over the weekend, while it was noticed this morning by the cleaning lady of the building, who located the damage and informed the authorities.
The shooting caused damage to the aluminium entrance of the building, as well as to an internal wall.
Members of the TAE Limassol are at the scene and are conducting examinations, with investigations underway, while it is expected that statements will be taken from various persons and closed circuits of monitoring the area will be received in an attempt to identify the movements of the perpetrators.

An uproar has erupted on the internet with a video in which various people seem to urge a minor with a disability to show off their genitals.
According to information from philenews, a complaint has been filed about the passer-by and several reports to the Police.
Specifically, the incident was recorded in a live discussion on Tik Tok, during which persons, who are being investigated if they were also minors, urge a child to show off his genitals, mocking him.
It is noted that the investigation of the incident was undertaken by the Electronic Crime Sub-Directorate of the Police.
