The new Municipality of Ierokipia and especially its capital, Geroskipou, needs a restart in all matters, since in recent years it has lacked projects and imagination. This is what the Deputy Mayor, Andreas Siikkis, points out speaking to "F", pointing out that this fact adversely and significantly affects the tourist prospects of the area.
We know the impact, but also the economic activity that the popular neighborhoods in the cities where they exist, for example, offer to tourist enrichment, he says, observing that the issue of the popular neighborhood has been discussed in the Municipality of Geroskipou for 20 years without any progress in essence.
It is not only that the city itself acquires a different character, it offers a taste of life from the one we all experienced in our childhood, says the Deputy Mayor of Geroskipou. We can make this popular neighbourhood part of our lives, to make the paved streets with the small courtyards and flowers in the pots again, to illuminate another part of the center of our city that only transmits today abandonment and misery without quality of life.
All this can be done, says Mr. Sikkis, with financial incentives to the owners, so that their premises can be utilized, offering them the opportunity to expand into new areas of action, for example by creating small traditional cafes, cafes, hangouts where the tourist and we can have the choice to enjoy our coffee or food.
What I want us to achieve is for the foreign visitor from the summer of 2027 not to come to take a look at our clientele and the church and leave for elsewhere or even worse to come and stay at the hotel and the beach, without even going up to the center of the Municipality, concludes the Deputy Mayor of Geroskipou.
