The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As a result of the preventive policing operations, 19 persons were arrested for various offenses, such as, among others, illegal possession of drugs, theft, assault, drunkenness and causing concern in a public place, as well as for driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

As part of these operations, during the night, 606 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 858 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 46 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, from which seven complaints emerged.

During traffic checks carried out, 293 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 24 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged. As part of the police investigations, 17 vehicles were detained.

Of the complaints made about traffic violations, 112 complaints concerned exceeding the speed limit and 24 complaints related to driving under the influence of alcohol. A case of driving under the influence of drugs also emerged, after preliminary drug tests. For driving under the influence of alcohol, 352 checks were carried out on vehicle drivers, while for driving under the influence of drugs, 10 checks were carried out on drivers.

Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue every day, with an enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, in order to protect citizens and ensure public order.

An incredible incident took place on a highway as vehicles stopped to buy watermelons with the Police identifying and reporting out of court three persons.

According to information, the Police identified and reported out of court three persons for the incident with the stopping of vehicles on the highway, to buy watermelon, as recorded in a video posted on social media.

Authorities note that an unjustified stop on the highway can be fatal.

A young pedestrian was injured on Saturday night in Limassol, when he was run over by a passing vehicle, the driver of which left the scene without stopping.

According to information from RoadReportCY, the incident occurred around 20:46 on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the junction of Agia Fylaxeos Avenue and April 1st Street.

The victim, a young man under the age of 25, was trying to cross the road when he was dragged by a passing vehicle and fell forcefully on the road.

The driver did not stop after the collision and immediately left the area.

An eyewitness stated that, although he did not see the exact moment of impact, he heard the noise and then saw the pedestrian lying on the street. Another witness reportedly stated that the vehicle involved was white in colour and estimated that the pedestrian may have been hit by the vehicle's side mirror before ending up on the asphalt.

The post appeals to anyone who was moving in the area around 20:46 and may have seen the collision, noticed the vehicle moving away or has footage from a vehicle camera from Agia Fylaxeos Avenue or 1st April Street, to contact the Police.

According to people who rushed to help, the injured man was conscious and could communicate with rescuers. Witnesses also reported that he appears to have used his hands to stop his fall, potentially avoiding a more serious head injury.

According to the Police, after the collision, the 25-year-old was taken to the Limassol General Hospital, where after receiving medical treatment, he was then discharged.

The Limassol traffic police continues the examinations.

The Police arrested a 41-year-old man on Saturday afternoon, pursuant to a court warrant, in connection with a case of attempted robbery at a bank branch in the province of Larnaca.

The case was committed on June 19, while the 41-year-old was also arrested for an investigated case of theft of car registration plates, which occurred on the same day in the province of Larnaca.

The suspect was already in custody in connection with another investigated case of attempted robbery at a goldsmith's shop in the province of Larnaca.

The case is being investigated by the Larnaca Police Department, in collaboration with the Kiti Police Station.

The Customs Department and YKAN proceeded with the seizure of approximately 1,600 cannabinoid products, with a total gross weight of 24 kg, after an inspection of two courier parcels at Larnaca Airport.

A 31-year-old man, as the alleged recipient of the packages, and a 23-year-old woman, who worked at the premises through which, according to the authorities, the products were sold, were arrested in Limassol for the case.

The operation took place on July 9, as part of joint actions by the Customs Department and the Anti-Narcotics Service to detect narcotic substances at the entry points of the Republic of Cyprus.

During the document check, a shipment of two parcels from a courier company, which had arrived from another Member State of the European Union, was chosen. The parcels bore suspicious sender and recipient details and had been declared as "souvenirs".

From the physical inspection in the two cartons, products of various kinds were found, including tea, coffee, chewing gum, jellies, cigarette filters, electronic cigarettes and roll-your-own cigarettes.

According to the authorities, the products contained cannabis or other synthetic cannabinoid chemicals.

The packages and their contents were confiscated by the Customs Department and handed over to YKAN for further investigation.

In a subsequent search of the premises in Limassol, additional quantities of cannabinoid preparations were found and confiscated.

The case is being investigated by the Limassol team of YKAN.

Update :

The two postal parcels were inspected by YKAN and the Customs Department, on July 09, after their arrival at Larnaca airport, from another European country. Quantities of cannabis and a large number of packages of products, which are believed to contain narcotic substances such as cannabis, were found in them. Specifically, the following were identified:

  • 20 containers with the inscription T9HC Flower, with a quantity of dry cannabis plant matter, with a total weight of 60 grams,
  • 300 packages with a total of 300 cigarettes, with dry cannabis plant matter, with a total weight of 300 grams,
  • 200 packages, with quantities of dry cannabis plant matter of one gram, with a total weight of 200 grams,
  • 125 packages, with quantities of dry cannabis plant matter of one gram, with a total weight of 125 grams,
  • 20 packages of CBD and Cannabis tea, with a total weight of 600 grams,
  • 5 packs of Cannabis coffee with hemp extract, with a total weight of 300 grams
  • 48 packs with the inscription Premium T9HC, with 48 vape vaporizers, with 1ml of liquid substance that is a controlled drug, with a total weight of 48ml,
  • 12 packs with the inscription CANNABIS GUMMIES, with gummies of 50 grams, with a total weight of 2 kg and 400 grams,
  • 12 packages with the inscription CANNABIS CHEWING GUM, with chewing gum, with a total weight of 204 grams, and
  • 10 packages labeled CANNABIS COOKIE, 50 gram biscuits, with a total weight of 500 grams

An arrest warrant was issued against the 30-year-old mentioned as the recipient of the packages. He was located and arrested yesterday by members of YKAN.

Then yesterday, the members of YKAN carried out a search in a store that the 30-year-old maintains, in the province of Limassol, in the presence of him, as well as in the presence of a 23-year-old woman who was found working in the store. Product preparations were found in the store, which are believed to contain narcotic substances such as cannabis. Specifically, the following were identified:

  • 18 packages with the inscription CANNABIS GUMMIES, with gummies of 50 grams, with a total weight of 900 grams,
  • 19 packages labeled THC, with five chocolates of 4 grams per package, with a total weight of 380 grams,
  • 4 containers labeled CBN + THC, with 10 gummies per container, with a total weight of 184 grams,
  • gram chocolates, labeled THC, with a total weight of 300 grams;
  • 12 packs of vape vaporizers, with THC substance 1ml, total weight 12ml,
  • 2 packages with the inscription THC, with chocolate brownies, with a total weight of 120 grams,
  • 3 packages of CANNABIS COOKIES cookies, with a total weight of 300 grams,
  • 4 containers of cannabis resin, with a total weight of 4 grams, and
  • A precision scale, with traces of green dry plant matter

The 30-year-old and the 23-year-old were brought before the Limassol District Court today, which approved a request from the Police and issued a five-day detention order, for the purpose of investigating a case of importation, possession, and possession of drugs for the purpose of supplying another person, as well as money laundering.

The Police proceeded during the night to arrest five persons in the provinces of Nicosia and Famagusta for spontaneous offenses, including assault on police officers, resistance to legal arrest, public insult and other related offenses.

According to the Police, in Nicosia, members of the Ledra Substation arrested, in two separate incidents, an 18-year-old and a 22-year-old. The 18-year-old was arrested after a chase for participating in a fight, while the 22-year-old was arrested for causing concern. During their legal arrest, both attacked the members of the Police, as a result of which they were arrested for the spontaneous offenses they committed.

In the province of Famagusta, around 3:15 in the morning, members of the Crime Prevention Unit (OPE) intervened in a fight that took place in a nightclub. Two people, aged 22 and 24, were arrested, while three members of the Police were injured during the operation  .The injured were taken to the General Hospital of Famagusta, where they received first aid and were discharged. The two arrested are expected to appear before the Court today for the purpose of issuing a detention order.

In a separate incident in the same province, a 19-year-old, who was under the influence of alcohol, was arrested after attacking two members of the Police during a police patrol.

According to the Police, these incidents demonstrate that members of the Police are called upon daily to manage high-risk situations, in order to protect the life, property and safety of citizens and to ensure public order.

The Police emphasizes that any attack against its member, in the performance of his duties, is an attack on the legal order and the ability of the state to effectively protect society. Violence and obstruction of the work of police officers will not be tolerated and will be dealt with immediately and with due severity, always within the framework of legality.

The Leadership of the Police expresses its full support and trust in the members of the Force, recognizing the professionalism, composure and dedication they show every day, even under difficult and dangerous conditions.

The protection of police officers who are on the front line is a necessary condition for the Police to be able to effectively carry out its mission: the protection of the citizen, the enforcement of legality and the safeguarding of public order, it is added.

The Police will continue to act with determination, professionalism and consistency against any form of delinquency, with the sole aim of ensuring the safety of citizens and the protection of society as a whole, it is stated in conclusion.
