The Police are investigating a case of attempted murder, after the serious injury of a 33-year-old man, who in the early hours of today, in the province of Larnaca, was allegedly attacked by a 21-year-old man.
Specifically, ten minutes before 0100 in the early hours of today, a 33-year-old man was found injured on a road in the area of Aradippou. Members of the Police went to the scene, where they located the 33-year-old, whom an ambulance crew picked up and transported to Larnaca General Hospital.
The medical examinations revealed that the 33-year-old had injuries to his body and hands, allegedly caused by a sharp object. The 33-year-old was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where he is being treated, with his health condition being considered serious.
According to the data under investigation, the 33-year-old was attacked by a 21-year-old man. After investigations that followed, the 21-year-old was located by members of the Police and arrested with an arrest warrant, for the purpose of police examinations.
The case is being investigated by the Aradippou Police Station.

According to information from Filenews, the victim underwent surgery and is fighting for his life. The number of knives he received was large, while one of them seems to have hit the lung.
Police data under investigation show that the 33-year-old was attacked by a 21-year-old man. After investigations that followed, the 21-year-old was located by members of the Police and arrested with an arrest warrant, for the purpose of police examinations.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
As a result of the preventive policing operations, 19 persons were arrested for various offenses, such as, among others, domestic violence, burglary of a home, illegal possession of property, possession of drugs, possession of an offensive instrument, illegal stay in the territory of the Republic, as well as for traffic violations.
As part of these operations, during the night, 620 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 848 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 50 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, from which nine complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 252 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 19 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged. As part of the police investigations, 17 vehicles were detained.
Of the complaints made about traffic violations, 105 complaints concerned exceeding the speed limit and 25 complaints related to driving under the influence of alcohol. Five (5) cases of driving under the influence of drugs also emerged, after preliminary drug tests. For driving under the influence of alcohol, 420 vehicle driver checks were carried out, while for driving under the influence of drugs, seven (7) driver checks were carried out.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

The Police proceeded to arrest another person in connection with the terrorism case that was revealed last May in Larnaca. According to competent sources, he is a 41-year-old man, who allegedly played a leading role in the organization and who acted as the mastermind.
The information was confirmed by the TAE Larnaca, stating that in cooperation with other services of the Republic, they proceeded to arrest a 41-year-old person, a third-country citizen, who was transferred to Cyprus following a coordinated operation from an Asian country.
It seems that this is a decisive development recorded in the terrorism case.
Exclusive information states that the investigators of the TAE Larnaca consider that the 41-year-old is said to be the person who had the coordination and guidance of the team, while the three accused allegedly made trips abroad, where they had contacts and meetings with him. The same information states that the authorities are examining his role as the person who allegedly gave instructions and directions for the action of the network under investigation.
His arrest is characterized by competent sources as one of the most important successes of the Cypriot prosecuting authorities since the beginning of the investigation, as it is estimated that it can shed light on the entire structure and international connections of the alleged organization.
The Head of TAE Larnaca, Giorgos Charalambous, confirmed that members of TAE Larnaca, in cooperation with other services of the Republic, arrested a 41-year-old third-country citizen as part of the investigations into the terrorism case.
The suspect faces the following offenses:
- Participation in a criminal organization
- Conspiracy to murder
- Conspiracy to commit a felony
- Money laundering
The suspect appeared before the Larnaca District Court and a detention order was issued against him for eight days.
It is recalled that a 54-year-old Palestinian with Cypriot citizenship, as well as men aged 32 and 38, who will appear again on August 6, have already been brought to trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca.
According to what has been reported by the investigative authorities in the context of the case, the 32-year-old and 38-year-old are allegedly connected to Hamas and allegedly prepared terrorist attacks against Israeli targets in Cyprus. These allegations are the subject of the criminal proceedings and have not been decided by the Court.
The three defendants, according to the indictment, face 11 serious charges (terrorism and conspiracy to murder, etc.), since they allegedly acted on behalf of Hamas and prepared a strike against Israeli interests in Cyprus.

The 40-year-old remains in prison until the start of his trial, facing charges of rape and abduction of a person for the purpose of sexual abuse, as the Court of Appeal rejected his appeal for parole. The Court unanimously ruled that, despite the fact that by the time of the scheduled start of the hearing he will have completed almost 16 months in custody, its duration is not disproportionate in relation to the seriousness of the charges and the circumstances of the case.
The appellant is facing a criminal case before the Criminal Court of Famagusta, the indictment of which includes two counts of rape and one charge of abduction of a person with the intention of subjecting him to sexual abuse.
The Criminal Court had decided on October 24, 2025 to detain him until the trial of the case. The hearing was originally set for December 2025, however postponements were granted, and the case was eventually set for a hearing on October 6, 2026.
During the proceedings before the Criminal Court, the defense argued that the detention had already exceeded 12 months and that the delay in the start of the trial was not due to the actions of the accused. He requested that the appellant be released on parole, arguing that the detention time was excessive.
The Prosecution countered that there was a serious risk that the accused would not appear in Court if released and requested that his detention continue until the new hearing date.
The Criminal Court ruled that the time of detention was not disproportionate, taking into account the seriousness of the charges and the previous judicial judgment on the necessity of his detention. At the same time, he clarified that the postponements were not solely due to the Court's schedule, as one of them was requested by the defense and the last postponement was requested by the Prosecution, without any objection.
The Court of Appeal agreed with the approach of the Criminal Court, noting that in repeated detention requests the Court mainly examines whether there are new data that differentiate the previous judgment and, in the absence of such data, the reason for the extension of the detention period is examined.
The decision states that until June 22, 2026, the appellant was in custody for 12 months and seven days, while by the date of the new hearing, on October 6, 2026, this time will rise to 15 months and 21 days.
The Court of Appeal ruled that this period of time, based on the facts of the case, does not exceed the permissible limits and does not justify interference in the decision of the Criminal Court. At the same time, he expressed the expectation that the Criminal Court will ensure that the hearing begins on the date set.
After rejecting all grounds of appeal, the Court of Appeal upheld the decision to continue his detention until October 6, 2026.
