CORAL BAY BEACH IS ''LOSING'' 500 BEDS DUE TO LOSS OF SAND

CORAL BAY BEACH IS ''LOSING'' 500 BEDS DUE TO LOSS OF SAND - Pafos Press 10/7

The sea is “swallowing” the sand on the golden beach of Coral Bay in Paphos. The phenomenon is not new since it occurred again 10 years ago, mainly due to weather conditions.

Mayor Akamas spoke on Mesimeri and Kati, who said that due to the phenomenon, the Municipality moved approximately 500 beds due to the removal of sand. The beach has shrunk significantly this year, said Marinos Lambrou.

Former MP for the Ecologists, Charalambos Theopemptou, also spoke on the issue, who said that due to the change in currents, we will see changes in the coming years.

In Cyprus, we do not conduct beach studies. For example, in EU countries there is a specific day of the year when a person walks the entire coastline of that country, said Mr. Theopemptou.

We need to monitor the phenomenon, said Mr. Theopemptou, among other things.
