What would you like the new euro banknotes to look like? The Central Bank of Cyprus invites citizens to enter the European Central Bank's online survey and have their say.
Ten proposals are in the "battle", which stood out in a pan-European competition with the participation of more than 1,200 graphic designers. The projects revolve around two themes: "European culture" and "Rivers and birds".
Voting will remain open until 21 September 2026. At the same time, an independent company will conduct a corresponding survey on a representative sample of Eurozone citizens.
The final selection is expected to be made towards the end of the year. The ECB will take into account citizens' opinions, the jury's assessment and the technical features of each proposal.
This is the first comprehensive redesign of euro banknotes since their introduction in 2002. The new banknotes will feature enhanced security and accessibility features, while the aim is to have a smaller environmental footprint.
However, the banknotes we have in our wallets today will not lose their value. They will continue to be released alongside the new series.
