The Cyprus Community Relations Fund (CCRF) has donated €54,000 to Sovereign Base Areas (SBAs) and Republic of Cyprus communities to help fund numerous projects.

The money is distributed within the SBAs and surrounding communities to help fund projects, and to support charitable organisations, schools, welfare and cultural associations, and sports clubs.

The donations support more than 28 communities across both the Eastern and Western SBAs and play a key role in the Administration’s efforts to improve people’s daily life.

During a meeting between Dhekelia’s Area Officer, Maria Kyriakidou-Pieri, and representatives of Paralimni-Derynia Municipality, she said: “As the SBA Administration, we remain committed to supporting our local communities.”

Kyriakidou-Pieri added that the annual CCRF funding for the Eastern SBAs, although modest, reflects the Administration’s continued commitment to supporting local initiatives and contributing positively to the everyday lives of SBA residents.

Her comments were echoed by Akrotiri’s Area Officer, George Kiteos, during a presentation ceremony held at Episkopi Officer’s Mess last night. He said the officials’ presence was a great pleasure and reflected the close and excellent cooperation the two sides had established.

Kiteos said the SBA Administration would continue supporting local communities and organised groups and bodies in any way it could, and that the financial contribution would support them in their mission to serve their people. “We are looking forward to enhancing our friendship and cooperation even more,” he said.
