The measures of the EAC trade unions that had been announced for Thursday, July 9, are suspended, following the meeting held early on Tuesday afternoon by the leaderships of the four trade unions of the Organization (EPOPAI, SIDIKEK, SEPAIK, SYBAIK) with the Minister of Energy Michalis Damianou, the Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki and the President of the EAC Giorgos Petrou, at the Presidential Palace.
The meeting had taken place at 3 pm and aimed to find a formula of understanding.
As Kyriakos Tafounas, President of the EPOPAI union, told KYPE, during the meeting the unions raised the issues that concern them. "I want to believe that they were completely understood," he noted and added that they will meet again in 15 days, i.e. on July 22. "They were given 15 days to make their contacts with other Ministries involved, so we renewed our appointment for the 22nd of the month."
He also said that depending on what will be heard at the next meeting, the unions will decide their next steps.
The unions are asking the Government to take measures to ensure electricity sufficiency in the coming years and especially after 2029, when polluting and energy-consuming units will have to be withdrawn from the Dhekelia station.
They also ask for the EAC to be allowed to buy cheap electricity from commercial photovoltaic systems, in order to reduce the average charging price of its consumers-customers.
