Incidents of heat exhaustion, patients with gastrointestinal disorders and injuries during excursions to the mountains and the sea fill the Accident and Emergency Departments with the authorities warning of the continuation, citing, among other things, the forecasts of the Department of Meteorology.

In the last week, the spokesperson of the State Health Services Organization told Filenews "there is an increased attendance of people who show symptoms of heat exhaustion or people who have been injured during summer activities, mainly on the beaches".
At the same time, he said, "we observe, as every year at this time, that patients with gastroenterological problems also come which are mainly due to food consumed spoiled due to very high temperatures but also other incidents that are caused by the sudden change in temperature, i.e. from closed air-conditioned rooms to very high temperatures and vice versa".

"We all understand that with such high temperatures we must be very careful in our behaviour and in the management of food because the risks exist but, fortunately, in most cases we can avoid them."

The Civil Defense Force also issued instructions to the citizens yesterday, predicting the high temperatures prevailing on the island.

Among other things, the Civil Defense calls on citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and heavy work in open spaces.

It is further recommended:

Avoid crowded places
Avoid sunbathing and sunbathing in open spaces
Drinking plenty of water, vegetables and juices
Use of artificial means of ventilation (air conditioners and fans)

Civil Defense also recommends the use of sunglasses, hats and light and light-coloured clothing when moving outdoors.

Particular reference is made to people who belong to the vulnerable groups of the population, with the Civil Defense appealing to citizens to be careful and ensure that these people, especially the elderly, are in air-conditioned spaces and are provided with all the necessary care to stay protected.
