The competent department of the Paphos Police Directorate that deals with the issue of pending for years uncollected warrants proves to be particularly lucrative for the state coffers.
The Assistant Police Director of Paphos, Michalis Nikolaou, stated today that yesterday a campaign was carried out to collect fine warrants from the police stations of the countryside. A total of 213 warrants were executed, as he mentioned, and the amount of €60,155 was collected.
This significant amount of money comes in addition to tens of thousands of euros collected by the Police in the last year and more, as part of an operation to execute warrants, which were pending in the province of Paphos.
These campaigns are now carried out at regular intervals and will continue as they prove to be highly effective. In two previous cases, the amounts collected from warrants pending for years were in the order of almost €100,000, in Paphos and the Chrysochous apartment.
This practice, in addition to the obvious financial benefits it has for the state coffers, is considered by the competent state officials to be particularly important for its semantics: That is, that it now sends the message that no one can feel that the uncollectible warrants will remain uncollected forever, as has been the case for so many years, but that they will be forced to pay them to avoid interest and shaming.
