VANDALISM AT THE PAPHOS HISTORICAL DOCUMENTATION CENTRE, BEFORE THE PROJECT IS EVEN COMPLETED

VANDALISM AT THE PAPHOS HISTORICAL DOCUMENTATION CENTRE, BEFORE THE PROJECT IS EVEN COMPLETED - Filenews 30/6 by Dora Christodoulou

With indignation, the municipal authority of Paphos found in the last few days that in the area of the Historical Documentation Center under creation, continuous phenomena of vandalism and damage occur, at a time when the project has not been completed, nor has it been officially received by the Municipality of Paphos.

As the authorities find, in the space created in the most central part of the city, on the central Kennedy Square, vandalism phenomena are recorded by people using scooters, skateboards and other means of transportation. Damage has already been caused to marbles, corners, railings and other facilities.
Referring to this sad spectacle, the Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, stressed that this area is not a track for acrobatics, nor an entertainment area for such activities. It is a place of culture and historical memory that demands respect from everyone, he remarked.

I have given clear instructions so that anyone found to enter the area and cause damage, regardless of age, should be reported immediately, he said. Each incident will be recorded and forwarded to the Police, while the Municipality will proceed with all legal actions, including the imposition of strict out-of-court orders and the claim of compensation for any damage caused.

The youth of Paphos have sports and entertainment venues at their disposal, said the Mayor, calling on young people to preserve public cultural spaces, instead of turning them into places of destruction and disrespect.

The Museum of Historical Documentation belongs to the citizens of Paphos. It was created with citizens' money and is the property of all of us. We will not allow a small portion of unscrupulous people to destroy what is painstakingly built for future generations, he concluded.
