TREMITHOUSA AT THE MERCY OF BURGLARS - WARNINGS OF THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL

TREMITHOUSA AT THE MERCY OF BURGLARS - WARNINGS OF THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL - Filenews 28/6 by Dora Christodoulou

The situation has reached the point of no return with the action of burglars in Tremithousa, a community in the suburban area of Paphos that is a stone's throw from the city and which shows intense traffic and commercial activity on a daily basis.

Nevertheless, the action of burglars and thefts have become such a significant problem that the community authority itself issued a statement warning residents to be more careful and contact the authorities immediately when they see suspicious movements.

The Community Council, its president, Christofis Petrou, tells "F", informs the residents of Tremithousa with the announcement that in the last week there have been many burglaries in houses. From the testimonies of residents who came face to face with the perpetrators, he emphasizes, it appears that one of the perpetrators is a tall man, of fair skin with blond hair.

We call on our compatriots, stressed the community leader of Tremithousa, to be especially careful and to take all the necessary measures to protect their properties, as well as in case they notice anything suspicious or unusual, to contact the Police immediately.

This week alone, Mr. Petrou said, four house burglaries were reported. In one of them, he stressed, the son of the elderly owner who happened to be at his mother's house, came face to face with the perpetrator.

From these burglaries, concludes the community president of Tremithousa, the perpetrators obtained high-value gold and cash. In one case, he stressed, they even stole the housekeeper of an elderly woman, who had an amount of €70 in her room.

Note - in view of the hotter weather, we all have windows and doors open.   Please check that these are closed and locked when you are in a different area of your property, or if you leave the premises.   Too often, burglars gain access through unlocked/open windows and doors.    If you have an alarm system, ensure it is in operation when you leave your property.

Do not leave your vehicle with open windows/doors and/or bags or valuations on display.

Do not leave valuables on display in your home

If you are sitting out at, say, the front of the property, ensure that you have secured entrances and windows at the rear .

Be aware of strangers or unknown vehicles in your area - take a note of the description of the stranger, and/or the make, model, colour and registration number of a vehicle - and ring the Police if you have even minor concerns.   They will then ask patrols to be on the look out.  Collecting as much information regarding a vehicle is imperative as it helps the Police identify suspect vehicles - for instance, the registration number may apply to a red Fiat on the database, when that same number is linked to a blue vehicle, then the Police will immediately alert patrol vehicles.
