The number of those involved in the cases related to threats, extortion, arson and arson attempts in Limassol is increasing, targeting a betting agency and companies selling luxury cars committed in the last 4 months. The victims were a 40-year-old agency owner, a 58-year-old man and his two sons aged 34 and 23, as well as a 54-year-old businessman active in the investment sector.
The investigators of the Limassol TAE secured testimonies against persons who are allegedly involved in six cases under investigation. Arrest warrants have been issued against the three and they are expected to be arrested, while two other persons remain wanted.
The three suspects, two 20-year-olds and a 44-year-old Syrian convict of the Central Prison, were brought before the Limassol Court again, as their detention order expired today. The investigator of the case requested the renewal of their detention for another 8 days, a request which was accepted.
It is noteworthy that the two 20-year-olds swore an oath in the Koran and submitted a request for legal aid, which was approved. On the other hand, the 44-year-old was guarded by members of the MMAD throughout the process, while the two young men sat in the back seats of the room accompanied by police officers.
According to information, the three persons are allegedly involved in the throwing of Molotov cocktails at a car sales office in Agios Tychonas, committed on 23/2/2026, as well as in the arson of luxury vehicles that occurred on 4/3, owned by two brothers and the 58-year-old.
Testimony obtained by the Police involves a vehicle of a specific brand, which is allegedly connected to the above persons. This is an element that also concerns a case of arson in the province of Paphos, while there seems to be a connection with the 44-year-old Syrian convict.
In addition to the 20-year-old Syrian who has confessed to his involvement in the arson of the betting agency, the second 20-year-old also stated in his testimony that he went to Limassol with the first, stating that he was a passenger of the vehicle and that he contacted the 44-year-old convict by phone via an app. However, he denies involvement, which is refuted by the forensic examination that was done on him after it was found that he had burns in the right temporal area, on the right shoulder, while his hair was burned.
As part of the Police investigations, testimony has also been obtained that the vehicle used by the two 20-year-olds, although registered with a company, had been bought by a specific vehicle sales office from another Syrian, who is also wanted.
As reported in a previous publication, the authorities are examining testimonies linking a convict of the Central Prison and a wanted man, who is said to be the mastermind behind the criminal actions.
So far, 58 statements have been received, while five investigations and one scene indication have been carried out. A large number of items have also been received, which have been sent for scientific examinations, as well as material from closed surveillance circuits.
According to the evidence presented before the Court, behind the threats and criminal actions seem to be hidden financial disputes related to the cooperation of the wanted person with the complainants, as well as monetary demands reaching €300.000.
