SMART SIGNAGE, MODERN EXPERIENCE! - PAFOS REGIONAL BOARD OF TOURISM UPGRADES VISITOR'S INFORMATION
The Pafos Regional Board of Tourism expresses its great satisfaction with the results of its initiative for the ongoing digitalisation of visitor information and the replacement of static, inadequate information signs with “smart”, environmentally friendly, discreet and interactive signage.
According to the statistical data collected through QR Codes for the period January–June 2026, more than 43,000 scans have been recorded from 150 smart signs, across the entire district. Excellent results were also recorded for 2025, with more than 140,000 scans during the period January–December 2025.
The most popular signs for 2025 were those located at Panagia Chrysopolitissa, the Monastery of Agios Neophytos, Kremmiotis Waterfall in Kritou Terra, the Catacomb of Agia Solomoni, and the Maa-Palaiokastro archaeological site in the Municipality of Akamas.
The five main nationalities, apart from permanent residents of Cyprus, who scanned the signs were visitors from the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, Israel and Greece.
The initiative continues in 2026, with the 7th phase currently underway for the creation of eight additional signs, which will cover various points of interest and natural monuments in the areas of Nikokleia, Pelathousa, the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, Letymbou and the Municipality of Akamas.
To enjoy the smart signage experience, users and visitors simply scan the QR code and then select their preferred language from their smart device. Through the platform, they are offered a wide range of information options, including audio guides, texts, photographic material, videos, 360° virtual tours and more.
The Pafos Regional Board of Tourism notes that its efforts in the fields of digitalisation, accessibility, sustainable development, enhancement of visitor experiences, promotion of cultural heritage, creative tourism and the overall promotion of the destination are among the most important pillars of its strategy for the further development of tourism on a year-round basis.
