The percentage of single-parent households with children in Cyprus in 2025 stood at 10.2%, according to data published on Monday by Eurostat, on the occasion of International Parents' Day, which is celebrated every year on June 1.

According to Eurostat, there were approximately 6.1 million single-parent families in the European Union in 2025, which accounted for 12.9% of all households with children.

The data show that the proportion of single-adult households varied significantly across Member States. Estonia recorded the highest rate, with 40.6% of households with children being single-parent. It was followed by Lithuania with 32.7% and Latvia with 28.5%.

On the other hand, the lowest rates were recorded in Slovakia with 3.1%, Greece with 3.8% and Slovenia with 4.0%.

At EU level, the majority of single-parent households had one child, with a rate of 60.1%, while 30.9% had two children and 9.0% had three or more children.

Eurostat also reports that single-parent families predominantly had a woman as the head of the household. Specifically, about 5 million households, or 81.6% of all single-parent families with children, had a woman in charge, while men accounted for 18.4%.

As reported, the publication of the data coincides with International Parents' Day, which aims to highlight the role of parents and caregivers in raising children and ensuring their well-being and protection.
