PHEDONOS IS PERMANENTLY SUSPENDED PENDING COURT CASE - COURT OF APPEAL REJECTED HIS APPEAL

PHEDONOS IS PERMANENTLY SUSPENDED PENDING COURT CASE - COURT OF APPEAL REJECTED HIS APPEAL - Filenews 10/6

The Court of Appeal today rejected the appeal of Mr. Phaedon Phedonos for setting aside the interim decision of the Administrative Court dated February 11, 2026, which rejected his request for the suspension of the suspension to which he was placed from the position of Mayor of Paphos.

The measure was implemented due to the investigation of serious criminal offenses against him. According to the Law, when a felony is investigated against a mayor who, in case of conviction, carries a prison sentence of three years or more, this person is ipso jure on holiday from the day of the publication of the notification of the Minister of the Interior in the Official Gazette of the Republic.

Mr. Fedonos had appealed to the Administrative Court seeking the annulment of the decision published in the Official Gazette of the Republic on February 5, 2026, according to which he is suspended from the position of Mayor from the date of its publication. At the same time, he had submitted a request for the suspension of the holiday.

The Court of Appeal rejected the alleged grounds of appeal, essentially confirming the findings of the Administrative Court that no obvious illegality or irreparable damage has been demonstrated.

On behalf of the Attorney General of the Republic, the appeal was handled by the Senior Advocate of the Republic, Ms. Theodora Piperi-Christodoulou, and the Attorney at Law, Mr. Simos Platis.
