The strengthening of coordination between the EOA Paphos, the municipal authority and the services involved for the immediate treatment of faults in the water supply network, is raised as one of the most important issues that will concern the Organization this summer by its president, Charalambos Pittokopitis. The marginal situation in the water sector in recent years and the unexpectedly good winter season in terms of water enrichment in the province, pushes EOA Paphos to take measures with the aim of not losing the slightest amount of valuable liquid unfairly.
In this context, Mr. Pittokopitis has already convened the first meeting with the participation of officials of the competent provincial bodies, during which it was agreed to create a common protocol of actions for the rapid information, licensing and execution of damage restoration works, to shorten the procedures required for interventions in road networks and public spaces, in order to reduce the time of water loss.
The President of the EOA and Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, also agreed on the immediate response of the crews of the EOA Paphos in cases of leaks or breakdowns, while facilitating traffic by the Paphos Traffic Police where required. In addition, the implementation of a joint plan for monitoring and controlling water losses in the network, the replacement of drinking water used for irrigation of municipal green spaces with water from alternative sources, such as boreholes, recycled water and other suitable irrigation sources, and the upgrading and modernization of the irrigation systems of the Municipality of Paphos with the aim of reducing water consumption and improving efficiency were also studied.
Angelos Onisiforou and Charalambos Pittokopitis also agreed to hold regular meetings to evaluate the measures and solve problems that arise, with the aim of the effective cooperation of all competent bodies for the reduction of water losses, the faster repair of damage and the sustainable management of the water resources of Paphos.
