The image of Paphos that foreign visitors will encounter upon their arrival in the city of Aphrodite, is this year among the highest priorities of local authorities and tourism agencies after the difficulties created in the tourism industry by the regional conflagration. In this context, the Municipality, hoteliers and others involved in tourism are already making intensive efforts for the flawless image and operation of Paphos during the tourist season, in order to avoid any chances of defamation of the tourism product in this difficult year.
The Municipality and PASYXE Paphos began consultations and understandings, during which the common will for a more substantial, organized and effective cooperation for the benefit of the city and its tourism product was confirmed. In a first meeting held at the Municipal Hall, the hoteliers of Paphos submitted their views and concerns on issues that affect the image and competitiveness of the city, with particular emphasis on cleanliness, the aesthetic upgrade of public spaces, but also on the major infrastructure projects that are in progress or are planned. Representatives of the tourism sector particularly expressed the desire that any works be planned in a way that does not affect the tourist season and the visitor experience. The common goal is to implement projects that will upgrade the coastal front of Paphos, while ensuring the smooth operation of the tourism industry.
The Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, stressed to "F" that the most important thing is that the private sector is not limited to recording problems. Hoteliers say they are ready to contribute in practice, to work closely with the Municipality and to support initiatives that will enhance cleanliness, aesthetics and the overall image of the city, he said.
Paphos has all the comparative advantages to play a leading role in tourism in the Eastern Mediterranean, Mr. Onisiforou pointed out. With coordination, a common strategy and synergies between local government and the business world, we can attract even more visitors, strengthen the local economy and create a cleaner, more beautiful and more welcoming city.
In this context, beautification works have been continuing lately in the area of the pre-eminently touristic street of Agios Antonios, one of the most important tourist areas of Kato Paphos.
The Mayor of Paphos told "F" that Agiou Antonios is the showcase of the city and that is why its correct image is a priority for the Municipality and the Municipal Council. Our goal is to create a clean, well-kept and welcoming environment, worthy of the residents, visitors and businesses of the area, he pointed out.
The work requires time, patience and coordination, as there are various difficulties and in some cases interventions are needed even within premises to achieve the desired result, he says. However, with perseverance and systematic work, we move towards our goal every day.
The Municipal Council remains committed to the upgrading of the area, because Agiou Antonios is not just a neighbourhood of our city, but one of its most recognizable points and its tourist showcase, concludes Angelos Onisiforou.
