NEW PLATFORM FOR TRANSPARENCY IN THE ELECTRICITY MARKET IN CYPRUS - Filenews 25/6

On 24 June, the Cyprus Institute presented the new online platform CyCEM – Insights, with the aim of enhancing transparency and information about the Competitive Electricity Market of Cyprus.

The platform collects, organizes and presents in a single and user-friendly environment the publicly available data concerning the electricity market.

CyCEM – Insights covers data from the Futures Market, the Ante-Day Market, the Unified Scheduling Process, and the Real-Time Balancing Market.

The aim is to fill a gap in the access and exploitation of market data, offering citizens, businesses, researchers and other stakeholders the opportunity to monitor the evolution of key indicators.

The platform supports visual analysis on an hourly, daily, and monthly basis. Users can look at electricity prices, trading volumes, the production mix, the participation of renewable energy sources and indicators related to the balancing of the system.

It is also possible to export selected data so that users can proceed with further analysis.

Professor of the Cyprus Institute, Theodoros Zachariadis, said that the open platform brings together all the official and publicly available data of the Cypriot Competitive Electricity Market.

"It is a practical information hub that enhances transparency and facilitates energy analysis based on real data," he noted.

As he added, the platform was designed by people with knowledge of the operation of energy markets, with the aim of facilitating the documented participation of stakeholders in the evolving electricity market of Cyprus and strengthening the public dialogue.

The platform is available for free on cycem-insights.cyi.ac.cy website.
