The rise in the price of several products continues, in conjunction with the continued increase in inflation recorded by the Statistical Service, with the Consumer Product Price Observatory of the Consumer Protection Service for May recording a series of products with increased prices.
According to the Observatory, which records the weighted average price for 250 basic consumer products, out of 400 retail stores nationwide, the largest increase, compared to the previous month, was recorded in the price of cold cuts with 6.4% (+9.2% compared to May 2025), in frozen breaded and pre-cooked fish by 6.3% (although reduced by 15.3% compared to May 2025), in frozen molluscs and shellfish by 6.1% (although reduced by 10.9% compared to May 2025), in oil by 5.8% (-0.2% compared to May 2025), in canned meat by 5.4% (+7.3% compared to May 2025).
Increases are also recorded in the price of Cypriot coffee by 5.1% (+5.8% compared to May 2025), baby food by +5.1% (+10.9% compared to May 2025), eggs by 5% (+7.9% compared to May 2025), flour by 4.9% (+3.5% compared to May 2025), laundry detergents by 4.4% (+10.8% compared to May 2025), frozen pasta by 4.1% (+5% compared to May 2025), soft drinks by 3.8% (+6.2% compared to May 2025), toilet paper by 3.6% (+4.7% compared to May 2025) and yogurt by 3.4% (+2.9% compared to May 2025).
Decreases, compared to the previous month, were recorded in May in fresh vegetables and greens by -24.3% (although compared to May last year they are increased by 24.9% compared to May 2025), in fresh fish and molluscs by -6.8% (+6.9% compared to May 2025), in fresh meat by -1.6% (-7.6% compared to May 2025), in frozen fish by -1.3% (+7.1% compared to May 2025), in sugar by -1.1% (+0.2% compared to May 2025).
11.2% difference between more expensive and cheapest supermarket in e-kalathi
Regarding the digital platform "e-kalathi", the Consumer Protection Service notes that the data on the platform shows the variation in the number of completely common products in 7 large supermarkets, which gradually increased from 228 on 15/10/2025, to 253 products on 15/6/2026.
According to the Service, the ranking of the seven supermarkets has changed compared to the previous month, and the difference in the value of the "basket of 253 completely common products" between the more expensive "Filippos" supermarket (€1,080.72) and the cheapest "Sklavenitis" supermarket (€972.10), amounted on 15/6/2026 to €108.62 or 11.2% for 253 products, compared to €119.70 or 12% for 257 products in the previous month.
The Service invites all consumers to visit www.e-kalathi.gov.cy platform and take advantage of the relevant application for mobile devices, in order to take advantage of the tools it provides for more informed and advantageous purchases.
In addition, the Service clarifies that the Price Observatories are prepared exclusively for the purpose of informing consumers and in no way constitute advice. Price Observatories are not intended and cannot replace the market research that each consumer must do based on their own preferences, data and needs, nor are they intended to indicate to consumers the points of sale they will choose or specific products.
In particular, it is noted that some of the products included in the Observatory suffer qualitative differences, which cannot be determined. To this end, the Service encourages consumers to do substantial market research before proceeding with purchases, taking into account the results of the Observatory.
