The work of the high-level conference organized since yesterday by the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in cooperation with the European Commission and on "Strengthening the islands and coastal communities of the EU" culminates today in Paphos.
The Paphos Conference, the last of the Cyprus Presidency, is attended by the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides, the Prime Minister of Malta, Robert Abela, Commissioners of the European Commission, Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus and EU Member States, as well as officials of European institutions.
The conference features the presentation of the Commission's two new, integrated strategies for islands and coastal regions, by the Commission's Executive Vice-President for Cohesion and Reforms, Raffaele Fitto, and the Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis.
Today's work will present the European Commission's vision to strengthen economic competitiveness and diversification, support the sustainable blue economy, tackle climate change, strengthen resilience and connectivity, and develop inclusive and dynamic communities, while promoting the right to stay in these areas.
Yesterday afternoon, the participants were guided to an area of Paphos with co-financed projects, specifically from Grigori Afxentiou Street to the Ibrahim Inn in the city's shopping center. In the evening, the official dinner for the European officials was held, which was also attended by the President of the Republic.
Today's session will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a speech by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister of Malta. At 10:30 the family photo will be taken and the work will be completed at 1.00pm.
