The suspect was brought before the Limassol District Court on Sunday morning. The investigators of the TAE Limassol requested his detention for a period of eight days, a request which was accepted by the Court.
According to the data under investigation, the 39-year-old was one of the three shareholders of the company. Over time, the two brothers who were also part of the company's shareholding began to suspect irregularities in the management of the company's finances and proceeded to conduct an audit by a registered accountant.
The audit revealed that the suspect was transferring money from company accounts to his personal accounts or proceeding with cash withdrawals. At the same time, he allegedly charged the company for his personal expenses, issuing relevant invoices.
In addition, according to the findings of the audit, cases of invoices that were presented as unpaid in the accounting books were identified, while the corresponding amounts had already been collected in cash. In other cases, he allegedly issued invoices, collected the relevant amounts and then proceeded to cancel them.
The total amount allegedly embezzled amounts to €610,215.
During his arrest, the 39-year-old allegedly mentioned the phrase "Do your job" to the members of the Police. During his interrogation, he claimed that the missing money was used to cover the company's expenses.
At the same time, a second case involving a lifting machine is being investigated. According to the data under examination, the 39-year-old, although he had already been dismissed from his position in the company, allegedly signed on its behalf for the customs clearance of a lifting machine without having the relevant authorization. The brother of the 44-year-old businessman from Larnaca, who is suspected of extorting thousands of euros from a businessman, was handcuffed by the Police on Sunday afternoon in the free province of Famagusta.
The 49-year-old arrested man is suspected of interfering in a judicial process in relation to the case in question, for which a second 42-year-old businessman from Nicosia, a 49-year-old undertrial and a 45-year-old woman are in custody. According to the Police, the offenses were committed on June 10 in the provinces of Larnaca and Famagusta.
The 49-year-old was arrested on a court warrant around 5.00 pm on Sunday and was taken into custody for police examinations.
The four were arrested last Wednesday after a 77-year-old man complained that on various dates between 2021 and 2024, they extorted very large sums of money from him. The complainant filed the complaint last March and claimed that it all started in 2021 when he and his son-in-law sold two properties for €3 million in a company, whose director is the 42-year-old businessman from Nicosia. It is noted that the 42-year-old again engaged the authorities in naturalization cases.
In the case, according to the pensioner's complaint, the 44-year-old businessman from Larnaca, who is accused in a case of influencing a witness for the incidents of January 17, was also involved. As it was told in court, the businessman allegedly presented a face to the elderly man and claimed that he had already agreed to the sale of the above two properties, with another buyer, for €8.5 million. and that there was a profit of €250,000 left that he would receive as a commission. The complainant stated that he knew the profile of the 44-year-old and that he was involved in criminal activities. That is why, as he said, he thought he would protect him and gave the unknown person the amount of €40.000.
The complainant stated that he then met the 49-year-old defendant, who is accused of a shooting in the center of Larnaca last January, as well as of torturing people in an illegal casino in Pyla. In 2022, the Larnaca businessman and the indictee allegedly persuaded him to become their partner in a betting agency and in this way extorted from him, as he complained, the amount of €25.000 and then another €24.000.
Two years earlier (2020) the pensioner's contacts with the 45-year-old reportedly began, who told him, as he claimed, that she wanted to leave with him in Greece. In the process, with the help of the defendant, according to the complaint, he received large sums of money from the 77-year-old, exceeding €150.000.
As for the businessman from Nicosia, until June 2022, he gave the 77-year-old €758.000. Along the way, the businessman wanted to change the agreement and all the other suspects allegedly pressured the 77-year-old to accept it and forced him to sign.
